ya know for odd reason I came up with a rational that scent has much to do with our altered awareness and perhaps even manifestation with our minds..lately Ive been observing scent only..and it has not been on purpose haha..I come across many influential ones in a day..and i was wondering if in altered states , even obes...does scent make an impression??? what is so special about this sense??? Im curious..

That is a very interesting question, Lilac.
I do think that scent has to do with altered awareness somehow, for example incense is always used in meditation and prayer rituals. I have never noticed scents during obes, but that is probably because I was never thinking about them.
I know that they can manifest some good feelings when I smell something cooking and I know that pretty soon a nice meal is on the way!

When I get ready to set down and metitate for the purpose of having an OBE, I always dab on a little esstentials of oil. There is a combination that is suppose to help with OBE. It is a few drops of equal amounts of Sandalwood, Jasmine, Myrrh, and a double of Rose water. Put in a spritz bottle of distilled water and just spritz yourself all over with that. If nothing else it sure does smell good.

What a marvelous sense it is. One that can hold the essence of someone that has long left the room, or one that can fill the heart with desire when they are close. But then ask yourself, in the dream world how many times you remember smelling anything?
There is an old Moody Blues tune that made me think along these lines in 68 ‘In Search of the Lost Chord’ Be it sight, sound, the smell, the touch. There's something, Inside that we need so much, The sight of a touch, or the scent of a sound,
It was the idea of sound having a scent to it that started me thinking there are far greater things to our senses than what we normally perceive. Like the sight of touch, it’s all around us if only we believe.
Try this Roni, take a clean crystal and without touching it hold it to your nose and breath in slowly and deeply, if you feel a vibration, an itch, or notice acid, sweet, sour, or salty taste, or even nothing that is good. Then have someone else hold it for a while, then try it again. If you notice a difference or even have flashes of insight then you may posses the quality of a tracker. Makes you wonder why the sinuses are around the third eye doesn’t it?
It’s a bit of remembering the old nature within us, remembering and using what we once had.

Scent is probably the most powerful memory inducer. That's a pretty good exercise BenHangen, I'll have to try it. I know I like to smell people (only if they smell good) but smelling is pretty powerful. Good topic Lilac.

Yeah I don't know. I know sound does also, but today I smelt something and it severely reminded me of my childhood. I know when I listen to a song that I used to listen to religiously. I can feel how I was emotionally during that time. It is crazy.

I discovered a new term lately ‘Dzogchen’, According to some schools of Tibetan Buddhism and Bön, Dzogchen is the natural, primordial state or natural condition of every sentient being, including every human being. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dzogchen The practice of Dzogchen In Dzogchen, self-liberation is achieved by discovering or recognizing one's own primordial mindstream and remaining in that natural state of primordial awareness in which all phenomena are experienced without creating karma through reaction, attachment, or conceptual labelling. Ronni I just mentioned crystals as I know you like them but they are not necessary, go with what you would feel could be easy. I would think at first you would be looking for something that vibrates the tip of the nose like an electric field, a wisp of a breeze, or a feather, actually anything that sets a special feeling first in the nose. Don’t expect to really smell anything, as it is usually a transmigration of senses. This is where the Dzogchen comes into play, there is nothing to figure out only finding the key that opens that door to the primordial state. I have used primordial state but if one thinks about it in ‘New Age’ speak substitute source if that is more understandable to you. Anyway in my opinion that at birth the scent sense in the most developed, it should be that way as to survive, how else does one find the nutrition to sustain life. Where I’m going with this is that it builds pathways to the nirvana state. A child that suckles at its mother’s breast receives far more than milk, a whole host of enzymes and proteins that have scent. The END of the hunger is a euphoria that places that infant back into that primordial state that they have recently come from. As we grow we go away from that association with the mother and Dzogchen but as it was probably the first pathway learned the knowledge would always be with us on how to return to this mind stream. When those certain smells come wondering to us it would seem that they quench momentary the hunger of the NOW and we can touch that sense of the primordial consciousness. This sounded better before the 2 beers but I think I made a case for the sense of scent, not that it’s stronger or the best but just the older.

scents spark memories for me too....use incense a lot... rose reminds me of my favorite grandma...sandalwood, church...patchouli, my hippie days...... but sometimes it won't be my incense...out of the blue, will come a scent...upon hindsight, maybe from my guides... a while back, i was sick with IBS...kept getting a strong odor of Juniper, but there's no juniper for blocks around... so i googled juniper and found juniper berry tea was good for IBS!

i found that every moment itself has a smell, strange i know, but when i rememebring a time in my life it has a smell.. a feel, like a nostalgia, and different moments in my life have different feelings and smells. also i find events items people all have 'signatures' to them which include like 'definition' or identification i dunnno its hard to explain. it slike breathing thru your skin or and your eyes, and feeling or experienceing the moment 'directly'. i find different metals and objects or fluids also have different feels, like a fusion of sensations. i think that when seeing energies directtly one 'intakes' the pattern of the object or smell etc, then adding a flow of paternal information into ones attention, telling them of the 'thing', at the 'source', or near the source of an object, person place etc, is the lines connecting the thing to other things, remooving the seperations we draw.. this i find includes the seperations from mind, eyes, touch, hearing and smell and which ever senses one may draw from the experience, thus uniting experience.. at the source of experience is any and every experience unseperate from the potential of experience itself, IN every thing.. at this point ones attention becomes the experience, as well as the 'future' formation of the experience itself, then as attention fluxuates or changes, the 'lines' of experience are aligned to match the attention..

I'll get this scent every now and then of one of my friends house when I was a little kid. And in that moment I feel the shift of awareness (altered state) in which I'll have an awake flash of being there and being the kid at the awareness level I was then.
Scenting into the future lol. I like that!

"there is no guarantee you will live a moment longer" Don Juan
or
"people die because they intend to die" don Juan
"a man with power can intend their own death, their exact death" - don Juan
I personally believe the contradictions in C.C"s writtings come from a changing level of awareness within the moments of the writings, like a progressional writting of his awareness.. like a progressive reflection perhaps.. it may be a lil off topic but the quote caught my eye, and so..
