I have been using nag champa incense for quite a while, it was my favorite incense to date. After reding a bit about gold, frankincense, and myrrh, i decided to try out pure frankincense. I planned on only useing it for certain occasions but after dropping some onto the charcoal the other day i might have to make this my regular incense. It is very perfect and after you get into trance it seems to change throughout the stages of meditation. I knew there was a good reason for it being a gift to Jesus. Can anyone give me more info about frankincense? Or even a discussion about any of the three gifts to jesus and maybe some history would be cool. I know that gold is considered to be the purest substance on earth and all about the golden mean and sacred geometry so gold as a gift makes sense to me. Myrrh on the other hand i know very little about. Thanks Todd.

Hi Osiris I absolutely love Nag champa and frankincense Both of these i use daily, I also use Frankincense as a purfume for myself. These have been favourite for years. I have discovered lately another incense called Spiritual Guide, also absolutely beautiful. As far as the gifts to Jesus maybe Frankincense was given for his state of mind as it creates a peaceful calm relaxing enviroment, Myrrh is an antiseptic and healing, so this would be for his inner health, great for wounds, as well as colds, it is an anti bacterial and anti fungal, So it is an excellent all rounder. And Gold I think is obvious. Cool thanks its been a while for me to look into aromatherapy. DB xx

The king that brought Frankincense to Jesus was Balthasar. A king from Saba (southern Yemen). It is actually Resin from the Boswellia tree. The king that brought Myrrh was Caspar from Tarsus (southern turkey). It is the resin from the Cammiphora tree.
In ancient times, Myrrh was among the most valuable substances known and, at the time of the birth of Christ, it was worth seven times its weight in gold. It can be used as an incense or it can be ground into a powder and mixed with oils to make a balm or processed into an oil. In ancient times, myrrh was used in the mummification of the Pharos in Ancient Egypt and to anoint kings. It also continues to be used today as it has for centuries as a natural dentifrice and is used in toothpaste and other oral hygiene products. Thats what ive found so far. Thank you dancing bear, i did not know it was a perfume also. I will have to try the Spiritual guide out since you like the other two im sure its gotta be good stuff.

Thanks Osiris for the interesting little facts. Myrrh is bigger than i thought. In my local spiritual shop they have a Frankincense and Myrrh combined incense cone, that is also quite a nice fragrance, But i think it is just fragrance and not essential oil based. But really nice anyway to scent your home.

Very interesting, I have personally not used frankinsence, I never really use my incense's because I like to spare them, even though I do have a bunch of them.
Frankincense or olibanum is an aromatic resin obtained from the tree Boswellia thurifera or B. sacra, B. carterii (Burseraceae). It is used in incense as well as in perfumes.
Frankincense is tapped from Boswellia trees through slashing the bark and allowing the exuded resins to harden. Tapping is done 2 to 3 times a year with the final taps producing the best resin due to its higher aromatic terpenes, sesquiterpenes and diterpenes content. High quality resin can be visually discerned through its level of opacity. Omani frankincense is said to be the best in the world, although quality resin is also produced in Yemen and Somalia.
Olibanum is used in perfumery and aromatherapy. Olibanum essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the dry resin. The smell of the olibanum smoke is due to the products of pyrolysis. Frankincense was lavishly used in religious rites. According to the Bible's Gospel of Matthew 2:11, gold, frankincense and myrrh were among the gifts to Jesus by the magi 'from out of the east'. The growth of Christianity depressed the market for frankincense during the fourth century CE. Desertification made the caravan routes across the Rub al Khali or 'Empty Quarter' of Arabia more difficult. Additionally, increased raiding by the nomadic Parthians in the Near East caused the frankincense trade to dry up after about 300 CE.

Very Alchemical of you there section 8, Some intesting facts. Now you have to get back to using some incense it is fantastic after a shower to have it, some music, and some good meditation. Thanks for the information im not really sure where mine is from but it is very nice. Unlike most i prefer to use a burner with charcoal and place the scent on the coal after its burning good. On occasion i use a regular style stick its the only way i know of that Nag Champa comes.

Our only store that I know of for buying essential oils is going out of business, so I plurged and went to see what oils they had left. I bought a bottle of Myrrh, it has a very light smell but very nice. It says on the bottle that it is body rejuvenating, mind calming and spirit purifying. I also bought a bottle of Sandalwood which was still very expensive even though it was on sale. It focuses the mind and santiflies the spirit. I would have like to of bought some frankincense too for on the sandalwood it says sandalwood and frankincense is good for meditation, but they were out of it. I bought a bottle of Jasmine because I just really love that smell and I use it for perfume a lot. The first time I bought it because animal as incubus posted that it is good for dreaming. Hehe. On the bottle it says it is mind calming and spirit liberating, so I guess that would be good for dreaming. I really do enjoy oils and incense. They do help you to feel great.
