I was just wondering what everyones opinions are on imaginary friends. I actually think that they are spirits but most children grow out of seeing them because they are constantly told that they aren't real. This is what happened with me. I had two imaginary friends when I was little, around 5 or 6. They were children too but older than me. So maybe they looked about 8. I can still remember them exactly as they looked now. One was called Sarah and she had long blonde hair and wore a white dress with lace round the collar, I suppose it looked more like something we would wear in bed now. The other was a boy called Kenny, he had dark hair and glasses and wore a grubby white shirt and grey trousers. I always met them in the same spot, behind our shed at the back of the garden. We didn't do much, just played like all kids did. But my sister said that she used to see me talking to myself and it frightened her so she told my mum. My mum then insisted that they weren't real and eventually they weren't there anymore. I was so upset I've never done any research on the house to see if a little girl or boy did used to live there, I think I might one day. Did anyone else have imaginary friends?

Yes i beleive they are spirit, whether they are linked to the house or just linked to her, they are real enough! esp; to my kids!

Never had an imaginary friend, but one of my best friends did growing up. We were like 12 or 13 and one day she started talking to a chair at the table but nobody was in it. I asked her who she was talking to, and she said it was her friend, and said she could see her too. Okay at first I thought my friend was a little cuckoo, but when I spent the night at her house, her bedroom got as cold as an icebox and I got that really creepy feeling walking to the bathroom. She also told me the house was haunted and that she talked to these ghosts through these old heater vents. Well maybe after being creeped out, I believed her then or at least tried to accept it. I wonder how come only some people can see them???

Hi Michael! Sometimes I think spirits are lost and don't know where to go. They probably do need some type of guidance.

There are many "things" that are there that ADULTS normally do not see.....children see them more readily. Some were released in the "past" others from the "future", some spoken into existence (by the knowledgeable.) while still others were "dreamed" to be......I have/had a friend if you can call it that, more like and attachment. Yet my parents would hear nothing of the sort when it came to talking about it. Mum was the word.

Bezjak i got mixed feelings with your post.. I had to Laugh when you say Mum was the word, (same in my house) LOL!! But it was sad you were't able to share your excitement about your friend... I am glad the world is opening up to the possibilities, Thanks to a few TV programs, the idea of spirit is no longer foreign, tabboo. or the devils work.. I know some are trapped in the time warp of evolvement but majority are allowing the possibility it is all real.. I wish i had an imaginary friend.. I just thought maybe I have " My Guides" DB xx

I never had an imaginary friend. Oh, I'd pretend that I was with other people, but I never had a specific friend with a name. My brother, however, did. He had named it Jonesy. Jonesy was "everywhere". He would name his favorite toys Jonesy. He even claimed that Jonesy lived inside of him sometimes. Now that is odd, but we never thought anything of it 'til years later. You see our apartment was very haunted. I was very sensitive to it. Knew when it came around. I was terrified. At the same time my brother made a new "friend" with Jonesy, the activity in the house built. Also, my brother would get extremely ill. Mainly stomach problems. He was put through medical tests that no child should be put through. Cancer was suspected, but the doctors/specialists were baffled that they couldn't find anything and my brother became sicker and sicker. It wasn't until we moved away that he became better.
So, I believe that imaginary friends can be "spirits". Not all of them, but in some cases...yes.

I actually tried to 'invent' my own imaginary friend when I was younger, but I never could understand the mechanics behind it. I first learned of them from kids movies I would watch, so I decided to put the idea into practice. I usually forgot their names, however.
