I figured I would contribute something. I mean, this one is probably pretty common knowledge by now, but I still hear people say that they don't dream. It's a myth! Everyone dreams. They just don't always remember.

You're right Lena. It saddens/angers me when people say they don't dream. Sad because...well they're really missing out and angry because...well...it's an ignorant statement.
Everyone is right about the death myth. I died once in my dream and was floating in some plasmic void with a sense of peace. XD

The myth that you go through several stages of sleep before having your first REM dream stage. Though this does happen it's not the rule. You can fall directly into the REM dream stage upon going to bed or falling to sleep. His an excerpt from this following link. "If a person’s REM sleep is disrupted, the next sleep cycle does not follow the normal order, but often goes directly to REM sleep until the previous night’s lost REM time is made up." longevity.about.com/od/sleep/a/sleep_stages.htm

nice ones both of you derek and lena, and I agree with you both! there truly are alot of myths because we simply can not quite measure our dream states, sure we can read brain waves, but each person sleeps differantly and the mind and body have so many factors involved as well, like how tired our physical bodies are or our minds.

It's interesting about REM sleep! There was a study done and they found that we really need REM in order to survive really! So dreaming is healthy.

There is polyphasic way of sleeping where you sleep for 20 minutes every 2 hours. From what I read about it you go straight into dreaming. Steve Pavlina did several months of it before he gave it up for social reasons. Some of the advantages he described were amazing, including increased dream recall, lucid dreams, and other psychic abilities. A lot of times I will sleep biphasically, where I will sleep 3-5 hours with a later shorter sleep period of around 2 hours. I had dream before in very short half an hour naps, pretty vivid ones too.

I used to do biphasic sleeping when I was younger mainly because I always drank and hung out with friends till late so could only get 4-5 hours of sleep and then I'd sleep a couple hours before going to my second night job. At the time I didn't even realize that it had a term.
Recently I tried to get back into biphasic sleeping because of my job. It sucks sometimes to always be getting up between 3-5pm. So I was going to bed around 7am (my normal bedtime) and waking up at 10-11am and then lying back down later for a couple hours before going to work. I gave it up because I didn't like having to fall to sleep twice in a day. I mean even when I'm tired it usually takes it a few to fall to sleep so I felt I was spending more time of the day just trying to fall to sleep. Plus I didn't feel like I was getting good sleep and was lifting a lot of weights during that time (and still am) so felt I needed quality deep sleep as well. I think If I were well of as in had all the money I needed so I didn't need a job, that I would adopt for of an animal style sleeping pattern. As in I would sleep whenever I felt inclined to wherever I'm at. I think that would be a great sleeping pattern. I think the best part of it is that the falling sleep process would always be effortless. Like how your dog or cat sleeps. They just curl up whenever they want and fall right to sleep. Ahh some day...

lol I can do that I can sleep whenever I like lol and indeed its effortless...Idk I just would rather sleep, my mom used to sleep the same way, in fact since I was a kid she would be able to sleep whenever and if she heard a noise she would say"stay out of stuff"lol meaning me and my twin lol all we were doing was stealing the car and making gigantic cookies lmao
