Well this has been going on with me for a long time now,and a few days ago I managed to have a high lucid dream where I flew outside it was dark and raining, of course I felt something after me so I shot straight up in the air, the adrenaline I felt was amazing..but I stopped in mid air above the buildings almost to the clouds..and when this happens I either loose control of my awarenss and the dream changes or I simply lower to the ground slowly lol..but I am not the only one with these flying fears , my boyfriend says he experienced the same thing around the same time I had my dream. He could only fly so high untill he stopped from either fear or maybe for him his awareness is opening up for the first time and his control is not that great, don't know..but Im thinking it either has to do with our sub fears of what is up getting in the way, or it is a symbol of our waking life..meaning we may feel restricted of our true selves..in some way...hmm..any thoughts?

Maybe since hes new to this he takes your energy and that allows for fear to creap in on you. And in his case its just the noobyness... The other thought is that you feel comfort in the fact you have something around you like the buildings. But as soon as you realize your in the open you loose that vital concentration? Its common while awake to have a fear of the sky when freefalling but usually only when you can still get a visual of the plane. Just like "open" water. Open just being that you cannot see land on any side of you. My first feelings were what you said though Sub fear still lingering and breaking the concentration.

I have alot of flying expererience in LD's and have a few opinions on it. First like always movement in a LD is totally thought based. While flying any kind of thought like for instance if you know that once you get to a certain height in the air that you'll come down this will happen. I used to have this problem. Your thought process while flying is so important to the flight. What I like to work on is just flying about 5 feet above ground and keeping this exact height above the ground. Another example. Often when I try to fly up to the top of a tall building I'll miss it by a couple of feet and come all the way back to the ground. Because of this whenever I try to fly up to a building this thought will be in my head that I will come up just short and it happens. So I will try it again but this time I reverse the thought and think that I will for sure make it up and I normally do. Lilac I notice that unless you have good control with sustaining awareness in the LD that often trying to fly really high in the air will take this awareness away or end the LD. It could have something to do with after getting so high we don't really know what it's like past that so our awareness has a hard time comprehending going up any further. Plus I feel to sustain a LD it's much easier to have dream objects to glance around at to keep the dreamscape intact. So when you get up high and you're just looking into a blank sky there's nothing to hold the dreamscape together and so a new dreamscape will develop but often you'll lose your awareness during this process. For awhile I had put most of my focus on sustaining awareness during these shifts like when I'm lucid and the LD is ending (as well as when I'm flying really high and the dreamscape begins to vanish on me) I was working alot with keeping aware into whatever came next. That's when I was finding myself often sustaining the awareness directly into floating in a black void and then watching as a dreamscape would begin to build itself around me. Those were some of my best experiences.

about me flying is funny, either I shot like a blind and remote controlled rocket through space and galaxies, or I jump like a kangaroo from beach to beach lol, But really flying with lots of calm, control and consciousness seems like I dont do often, but when I do I enjoy it maximum and cant remember to have felt fear. But there is this kind of hoovering which mostly comes within experiences on special "planes" like last week it was this Bardo-twighlight-zone in which I was. Whenever psi-things are happenening I do a kind of hoover in full concentration, controlled by "mind", or whatever we would call that "I-instance" which acts and decides while astral-journeys. Presently my night-journeys are somewhat a bit confused. j&j Nani

I still use my arms and flap like a bird ... or jump like superman did in the movies.
I seem to trust that the air current under my handsFlapping , is enough to keep me in the air ..? ...lol...

Wow, very similar to what happened to me. I had a lucid dream awhile back I was flying around and then landing softly on the ground. I could shoot straight up at will, very rapidly. I shot up so fast the last time I thought I was going to soar right to heaven! I thought I'd be dead then, so I panicked and woke up. My fear had gotten in the way and I was disapppointed the dream ended. Well, there's always next time!
