All right Dude, you've got my undivided attention. I'm in Alaska and there is not a damn thing to do here at night lol.
Yes, sometimes because it's convenient to do when you are lying on the couch and have some free time. I don't use it as the main-staple of my energy diet so to speak though. I guess you could say that I supplement my energy training with NEW which is what I would suggest for anyone using it; to not use it as your main program but use it as additional. Eastern meditation is like the meat and potatoes of your energy meal, and it is the basic necessity. NEW would be like salad and soup... you can't live off that alone, but it may have nutritional benefits provided that you don't eat just that. If you choose not to have salad and soup, you can still probably have just as healthy a meal in the main course (eastern meditation).
I'm kinda hungry : )
If you're going to be doing NEW and want to try to increase the affectiveness, try going for a twenty minute run first, and run good and hard. Chinese medicine will tell you that blood and energy go hand in hand and getting your blood pumping will help and heat your body from the inside. Bruce says to try a hot shower first, but this is better... and some qi gong books say not to take a hot shower first but say you SHOULD run first. So that's something to keep in mind.
Refraining from ejaculation will also help greatly. Robert Bruce doesn't say that but there's a lot of things that Bruce doesn't know. Qi and Jing BOTH nurture your spirit... Jing is your sex drive, when it's high, energy is high. It would be hard to say which contributes more, qi or jing. I strongly suspect that many people here who can project well but do not energy train have a sex life that is extraordinary in one way or another for one reason or another.
If you could do it at one time but not anymore, I don't really see why you would not be doing the technique right... if it used to work, unless you just forgot. I would suggest re-reading the section on NEW and making sure you're doing it right, and then try running first and if it still doesn't work, just don't worry about it. One thing that even Bruce says himself is that the sensations from NEW "always" decrease over time. He tries to pass this off as evidence of better energy flow, and of "less resistance", but I don't think that makes any sense because energy sensations don't decrease over time in other (more legitimate) energy practices unless a blockage from an injury is being worked through. This is just another thing that goes to show that NEW may not be the best thing out there and that Bruce may not really know what he's talking about.
I don't know anything about the "white light" method. Is that a NEW technique? It wasn't in the book, maybe it's in his online guide or something... well it doesn't matter, it sounds like it's gotta be a western technique. Again, I think you should focus more on eastern techniques and use that as your base program. If the technique is just how it sounds, and you just imagine white light around you to supposedly increase energy, I don't think that'd do anything and wouldn't waste my time with that. Honestly I think that sounds a little rediculous... I don't see why that would increase energy and it sounds random... why would the light have to be white? As if it would matter. Whatever.
I think that a LOT of visualization-based techniques really won't do anything for you. NEW is an exception to that rule, but I think that even it will only get you so far. Some qi gong methods will use some visualization, but they don't rely on solely visualization. It's just extra.
Qi gong would be your safest bet for developing energy. NEW's ok, and other ways are ok, and maybe they're more than ok or as good as qi gong on occasion or if you can do something weird like enter a deeeeep trance every time you do those methods, but on average, and under normal circumstances, I think qi gong or another eastern way is by far you safest bet.
A really good book you might order is called "The root of chinese qigong" by Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming. You can read an excerpt from that in a post I made here lilacsky.proboards39.com/index.cgi?board=meditate&action=display&thread=1135813847 I also talk about another book by that guy there. They're great and you should definitely read that excerpt I posted. You might also get another book. Maybe one on wuji standing because if the books by Jwing-Ming have any faults, it might be that they overcomplicate things or prescribe too many techniques. I actually can't do just any qi gong method I want because some of them bother my back, so I have limited myself but have seen no reason to believe that I am being held back in any way or that the eventual outcome won't be the same. Maybe some people need to go more in depth though... I guess it's possible that I am lucky, in fact I know I'm at least a little lucky but I still think, as my teacher said, that there is more than one way in qi gong to reach the same eventual goal.
Ok, that's all I can think to say right now. Let me know if that helps, and if you have any more questions let me know and when I can get on a computer, I'll write you back.
::)Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Roonnnniiiiiiii
Do you practice Robert Bruces NEW Energy Ways?

I use to be able to stimulate my feet with the sensational visualization but now I cannot do this.
