ahh, yes Truth,, ya know I ask people this very question often because it shows that we realy don't have this answer, however, it is a answer perhaps we can not share with others...nor try to define.. since we can not define truth, how can we define the laws of it...and in this world Law is truth..isn't that a lie in itself?
what is truth to you I ask???

Depends on what your wanting to know.
Conventional Truth, is any phenomena other than emptiness. Conventional truths are true with respect to the minds of ordinary beings, but in reality they are false.
Ultimate Truth, the ultimate nature of all phenomena, emptiness.
Emptiness: 1.)Nothing Real exists, everything is dependent upon something else for its existence, therefore it is an illusion that plays with the mind. If the mind wishes to interact with this illusion, pretending it to be real, and get's caught up on the notion as it is real, then whenever that object of attachment changes, breaks or ceases to exist, our minds become afflicted with various types of pain. Thus we create virtuous and non-virtuous states of mind to ripen upon ourselves when in all reality it is just an illusion. Kind of like a movie that has the abilty to cause us to become afraid, or tears to run down our face.
We create our own mental prison, in fact some questions are impossible to answer, not because we lack the intelligence to figure it out, but if we jiggle around with such a question are we not playing around with an illusion and possibly wasteing our entire life away on something that really doesn't help us out in the first place? If I knew how many sand grains existed in the entire universe, how would that help me? How does what is truth help anyone?
Truth is breaking thru the illusion, or just knowing that what we perceive is an illusion.
2.) I guess if you want to know what truth is, try some form of logic or practice and see whether or not if what your attempting to do has certain expectations.

thank you for posting such a wonderful post there Potential..and I suppose I was asking what all truth is ...and how it can be justified, if it varies from one person to the next... because it does and I don't understand how we live in a world that trys to define and capture it, and hold it onto us..with laws and everything else...and there isn't any..I don't get how one human can say what another human can and can't do either... I am starting to hate this world..or just the people that make the "rules"

Truth, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. I don't believe that Laws are supposed to be truth, rather that they are supposed to protect the majority of the peoples' right to their own truths, for the most part anyway. Laws will always have to be fine tuned for loopholes to be closed and for them to reflect the changing attitudes of the community to which they apply. My younger daughter's name means truth. She has a lot to live up to, lol. Love and Light, Uriella

Right on Uriella,
I have thought that laws will always change,
but the truth can never change.

Truth is an exaggerated lie...lol. I don't think I could answer this question either because my Mom, whom I love lies a lot and my father, rest his soul, was also a liar. I guess that's how they held their marriage together so long--without the truth. A small example would be my father asking where my mother was all day, she responding she was at the bank, but in fact, she was at the beauty parlor. Her sisters would lie too. I just think it's a big comedy when they're around.
I'm known for my honesty. I would say we set up laws for ourselves, and society sets up laws that hold you responsible for the truth.

the law of life is love... and the law in this reality could never define truth therefore justice does not or can not be grasped on this planet...its just stupid to me that humans try to create such laws of life..and yeah it prevents others from taking others lives but does it really..I mean it seems the law is a huge joke and people will always do what they will...regardless.. I still don't see or will ever understand why humans must constrict other humans..of their given right ot live freely....now I agree than one human should not be able to take another ones life, ...and that is the only law really I agree with..the most. this world/life is just backwards to me,and Im glad I never paid attention to it when I was little I was too lost in my own world and I will remain this way because humans just don't get it...lol

You do ask a tough question and I'm sure you will get a different answer froam everyone.
But to me "truth" is the 'real' state of things. Meaning truth can be good or bad as long as it's real. But that brings up the question of what is real? And to me "real" is pure existence.
You are right in the fact that you can't put words to define what truth is. It's more of a feeling and sense than anything else. Because I'm not sure my definition of the term is true to my heart or not.
Perhaps it would be best to give an example...If I were to tell the truth... I would be telling my real, pure thoughts whether they were good or bad. But even that way of defining it doesn't justify what I think truth is.
I think your sig says it best, "Say not, "I have found the truth," but rather, "I have found a truth."Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet" No one can say there is only one truth as there are many truths.

yep I agree with ya anise well of course lol thats why I have that in my sig..but its good to have as a reminder that we are all differant and have our own thoughts and those thoughts have created our reality to what it is,and our own personal truths as well..I like to hear others answers to this question..its interesting to see how people think of truth, and for the most part everyone on here is very open minded and understanding..I think its great..

I half agree, yes the bible is a bit outdated, but some of the principles and ideas presented in it are still relevent to modern life. I know a guy and i'd pefer him to be a christian rather then a hitman for a gang.
