very useful indeed! and ya know I always wanted to use smudge sticks but never have..so thanks for posting this..and also how do I go about making my own smudge sticks, Ive heard its fairly easy, but never tried it. the magic shop near me only has sage smudge sticks and I don't like sage, maybe I could make my own with some other herb.. so how long have you been practising witchcraft? you seem to know so much, much more than myself..and Ive been reading it for years lol but not practising until a few years ago and Im not an everyday practioner ya know..well I guess I am, just in my own way of working magic..

Here is the original smudging post.
Smudging is done to purify yourself and your ceremonial space. There are many herbs that can be used but the most common are, sweetgrass, sage, and lavender. It is done by lighting your braid on fire with a flame, preferably not a lighter, a match or candles work well. When the sweetgrass catches on fire you should never blow it out directly with you breath, but instead waft it or snuff it out. Let the smoke flow around your head, and body. Touch your arms, legs, stomach, legs, untill you have bathed your entire body with the smoke. It is common to use sacred feathers for this ritual, such as eagle, hawk, or macaw feathers to waft the smoke around. These feathers contain very strong energy in them. When you are finished remember not to blow out your candle, but to snuff it out. You should sit for a minutte in contemplative silence for a few moments to feel the cleansing energy flowing through you. If you plan to cleanse others always be sure to cleanse yourself first before this. This process will remove negative energies, and help to rid negative spirits from you and your space. I hope this information has been useful!

Smudging is done for many reasons, and here are some more aspects of these reasons that I have recently found.
Cedar- Calming, comforting, purifies and protects.
Juniper- Centering, clarity, cleansing, and focus.
Lemongrass- Refreshing, communications, and channeling.
Pine- Cleansing, renewal, and strengthening.
Sage- Cleansing, Balance, banish negativity, and strengthening.
Sweetgrass- Cleansing, call for ancestrial and spirit helpers, and ancient wisdom.
