I have recently come across many occult trainings that recommend they NOT be used during a waning or completly waned moon. I wondered from a Wiccan or others standpoint what is the significance here? How much truth is there to it? It is also mentioned that there is a dead time of year. any help would be great. I went through a time in December where i fealt that i had nothing,no energy, nothing is this just me or is this the "DEAD" time of year spoken of?

Ya know Osiris, While I do so believe in the power of the Moon and its effects on us, and that there are prime times for certain specific rituals or the like, I alss beleive that will and intent have the power to pretty much over ride any thing you want. So if you beleive that you can draw to you that which you most desire while the moon is waning or there is no moon at all, then you can and you Will. On the other hand, if it is your belief that nothing will come if you do magicks on these nights, then most likely, nothing will. Just the way I see it. Peace ~SG

Thats exactly how i have fealt about it. Its all about belief. I believe anything is possible so why should it stop me. Also i could see from the standpoint of someone that only uses nature or the world and astrology believing this. There are so many place besides those to help with enrgy and enhancement. Most of the book i speak of has helped so much with traveling and many other techniques that were great. So thats why i ask the stuff seemed pretty legitamate so far.

Waning Moon The Waning Moon is the time between the Full Moon to the New Moon. It is when the Moon’s illuminated surface is getting smaller. During the Waning Moon, when the Moon’s illuminated surface is getting smaller, is a time of loss or disappearance. This is a good time to be rid of unnecessary or negative forces. for more info: paethieon.com/portal/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=44I do know that winter is a time when nature rests and recharges but never really heard of it as a dead time. Maybe because of the shorter days a person can feel low energy, my opinion.

I agree with serenitygarden, when I first got into witchcraft, I thought how can this be true to only do spells, rituals at a certain time/mmon phase.. but I don't think it matters, honestly I think when you feel full of energy and the time is right , go for it! I disagree with many things wiccans/pagens ect beleive, I have read many books and to me its almost as far fetched as parts of the bible..but that is what I found to be true for myself..to each their own I suppose.

Personally I have not heard of doing magick during a waning moon being a bad thing. I know if you get into detailed work with the moon you have to avoid doing magick on a day where the moon is 'void' as it will not lend you any power to your spellcasting and your magick may not work. I also know you can also work with retrograde planets(ones that seem to move backwards for a short time) but these are all aspects that I think are overly detailed and are probably only for someone who is wishing to specialize in doing their magick by the moon. This would require lots of almanacs and figuring out where the moon is in relationship to the planets and so on. it give me a headache just thinking about it.
I do know that during a waning moon there are various types of magick that work best with the phases and these are what i have looked up.
Waning Gibbous- 3.5-7 days after full moon. Purpose- Initial banishing and putting what you have learned at the full moon to good use.
Last Quarter- 7-10.5 days after full moon. Purpose- Destruction
Waning Crescent- 10.5-14 days after the full moon. Purpose- Rest
These are just general guidelines though. I don't think you should have to worry unless the kind of path you are following is strict about the monn phases.

Thanks guys i did recently find a referance and reason for it ill have to dig it up again and post it just for referance. I dont really practice spells or the craft. More of a mystic i would say but the part that mentioned not doing it on a full moon was where you actually eject astral substance from your third chakra. I do remember after finding the reason it said especially as a begginer do not do it on a waning moon. Still thanks and anything else you guys may find would be great.

You are welcome osiris, glad our info helped. There are so many ways to our crafts that I don't think any one way is wrong or right. I am solitary for that reason, can't seem to conform lol.
