I know we have had a thread on familiars before, but I don't know where it's at and I read this articles on familiars and wanted to share. Hehe! Now I know why I have some many turtle doves in my yard. I rescued a couple of babies one year when the storm blew their nest out of the tree. www.visionaryliving.com/articles/familiars.html

Familiars are amazing. what can be a familiar? - ANYTHING!! why?? tricky this, because the reasons are often within the unknown, and thus difficult or impossible to describe. When you hang around someone for a while, one tends to take on their habits and routines, their way of seeing things, mimicking(mirroring) their actions, movements, perceptions, their positive aspects, their mindsets and addictudes, their secrets. telepathic communication is often initially learnt from animals, and plants, that communicate mostly through their projected energy. their connection, and balance with thier surroundings is awesome. Different animals aid with different things, and is one befriends an animal, and I mean respects the animal with their awareness, their awareness of the animal increases. the animal becomes aware of you and your knowledge, and you of the animals knowledge that it will share.
I became friends with a seagull. It lit up my perception of the birds so I could see them as light against the sky. The bird dove down to my position, locked to the top of my head, and as i watched its movements I could see them perfectly, slowly, and it swooped up at the last second, pulling me up into the sky. it pulled on my head so strongly i was scared i would soar into the sky and be out of control. the feeling was so intense. 'neep neep' it said to every idea i had and within it its feelings, laughing at me, having a blast, i was amazed and in LOVE!! it dove again and again on me, and I felt the extreme pull of its lines on my body. the more i watched the more i could see its movements, and could ask it again, and expect it to continue to dive at me. i could think of it pulling up and it would pull up, turn and it would turn, i would feel joy and excitement!! and it would exlcaim loudly 'neeeeep'. i saw that it is teaching, offering to fly, showing me how they teach each other to be in sync with each other, how to listen and how to let go. the beautiful gull i see everywhere, and it told it's friends too, some crows as well, and so now I get dove at, and I feel amazed everytime at the beauty and connection the birds offer their awareness is so pure and beautiful, so joyous and so smart, so playful and yet so watchful and aware. I project to the bird my strength in what I know and have seen, and the bird flexes its body and arches its wings in response, and I just want to cry in my joy, but i dont overindulge... tooooo much. when will i let go I dunno, and soar into the sky as a fellow bird. the pulling of the birds get so intense sometimes i can;t look into the sky without the fear of soaring into it. without the protection of a cozy lil bubble the world becomes free, i am certainly glad of this amazing fact, but wow, it can be intense!
but yeah as i wanted to say familars are amazing, and become more and more amazing as awareness increases.

I feel that my familiar is the deer. Every time I go into meditation, I see a deer come towards me, and then lie down next to me and let's me pet her. We both seem to sit in an infinite silence...it is as though the deer were meditating right along with me.

thats very cool, the deer is so beautiful, watchful, peaceful. in shamanic meditations this often takes place, sometimes woth different animals for different times, and ofcourse always the ones you know. Shamanic practices makes friends with the animal and asks the animal to take them on a journey, sometimes to collect fragmented aspects of our energies, that can at times get left behind in other places, sometimes a journey for knowledge and power. The animal runs off, or flies away, and the practicioner simply follows.

I think the reason that the deer came to me is because I have trouble with irritation sometimes, and like you said the deer symbolizes the serene.

I have the Bear and at times another will pop in, I have a huge managery of birds around me all the time.. I am a believer in our totem of animals who are our guides in areas of our personality that either need attention or are a huge part of it.. If the deer is continuously coming ot you I would say she is the animal who is your main animal as it is my daughter,..and it would not surprise me as you metnioned you started hunting the glowing ghost, a Person with Deer would do this..a bit like a curious kitten, but the deer stays that way even when grown..anyway enough of me babble, just thought aloud here as i do DB xx

Dancing Bear, thank you very much for your reflections on this. It was funny, because I saw a book on totem animals downstairs that I bought years ago, and forgotten I had. Maybe it is indeed time to open that book again and study.

i had this one cat, sabbastian, he was so great i have no words to speak of him, but my love is with him always. i only see him now through the viels, sound and images. but we would gate together in perfect harmony. i would walk over him, so i would step on either side of him, rubbing my instep alongside his legs, and he would scream, then stop, with every step. we would love it. he taught me how to hunt insects very well, and taught me how to speak with animals, especially cats, but many animals are the same. he showed me the lines that insects make in flight, and showed me how to use them to draw them to you. birds as well. i showed him how people see, and how i see, and he was amazed, shook his head and nearly fell over with shock. it was lovely. he was my warrior kitty.

wow this sounds so cool Whistle, and me too I`ve had the honour to be beside an enlightening cat for 9 years, have learned so much, and exchanged so much with Ati. And just yesterday I had a real heavy remembrence-phase, after 16 month that he is gone, but it was like he was with me last week, so near. For me this is the proof that life is an illusion, cause I can switch in between different realities and feel them so real, regardless if they are physical or not. LJN

Oh nani I know, and i have also opened doors between where my sabbycat is and I. He was/is my warrior kitty! SOmetimes I find it intense, upon shifting between places, and different 'opposing' knowledges. Sometimes I like to sit inside an enclosed space, knowing the every inch of every wall, untill I see again that the ceiling is too low, and then have to creep out, again, to other rooms. Going back to the beginning room, with all the knowledges of the other rooms, sure is something! haha! sometimes i like to forget!

Super awesome plants give so much!! Who woulda thought? Plants as a familiar, we are so lucky to have them. They give us balance. With the aid of plants and trees we gain balance over the terrain, one cannot sneak up on us without the plants telling us, and we gain knowledge of whatever is in the area, objects sounds whatever. We gain better 'footholds' over the surroundings, and have a keener sense on 'where to go to find this or that'. We gain richer more intense colours, and beauty catches our eyes more easily. We have more vitality, a 'healthier' colour, a lust for life. We see energetic auras easily, and can intuit many many things in accordance to plants..

I so hate to be a party pooper.....yet I must warn you. Choose wisely which being(s) you allow to be your familiar(s). For the gifts they may or may not bestow are not "free" so to speak. Remember energy is never lost, it is merely transformed. So then I ask to what ends do they "give" these "gifts"; to change us from what to what and why?....not saying you should not take a familiar, just be aware, be careful, and measured in your actions, for decisions made on this plane CAN affect you ETERNALLY.

Alexandra... if I may - 3 variations, "familiar" is usually attributed to an animal (in spirit form) that agrees to work with you in the casting of spells and the like - giving you their force/energy to enhance the "work" you are doing (as in a witch's cat). "Animal allies" are, and this fits your post, an animal (in spirit form and very often in physical form) that comes to you as a companion - they bring answer's to your unspoken questions. Her (the vibration I feel is that of a Doe) gift to you was/is that of Peace....In the Druid tradition "Damh"(stag) is a creature from the beginning of time. And last but not least are the "Were", animal shape-shifting - taking on the form and power's of a consenting animal companion...the workings of a shaman. In the maze of parallels...Nine
