Hi I'm Kirsty. I live in the south-west of England with my husband Gav. I've joined this forum to take part in The Art of Dreaming guided read/workshop thingy. I've had some experiences in the past with dream walking, specifically with regard to Castaneda's book. I'm interested in several topics including metaphysics and tarot. Looking forward to talking to you in the forum Kirsty

wow hello Kirsty, Im really pleased to meet you.
hehe lol that sounds so cool and funny: "..guided read/workshop thingy", hope you dont get me wrong, its only the word "thingy" which has got such a funny translation in german. If you didnt mean that funny at all, I do apologise.
Also beforehand I would like to apologise for any of the many mistakes I may do in the future (this lovely friends here say that my english is fine, but they are just so decent and repectful..lol love them all) so I still rather would like to mention it at least one time and of course would love to be told by you if I do express something embarrasing or annoying, without being aware of.
You may know that I admire your husband Gav, he has helped me spiritually in many ways, as also Ronni, Blake and many others here did. So Im very grateful to have found this place and Im very grateful and pleased to finally can say hello and WELCOME to You. Wonderful you are joining us
Im excited and looking forward to our work-out. love_growth nani

Hi Kirsty,
I'm supposed to have a reading done the beginning of August, can you give me advice on getting a reading and what I should expect? Is there anything I should ask or be prepared for?

Hello to all of you. Thank you for making me feel so welcome. Sorry it’s taken so long to write back, I’ve been a it taken up with moving and stuff… but I’m back now. Lol. Hi Astralanchor The best advice I can give you is…. Know clearly in your mind what you want to ask before you go. Be careful if you’re paying for your tarot reading. There are quite a few ‘charlatans’ out there who are more then happy to take your money off you and tell you what you want to hear. Word of mouth is the best way to find a good tarot reader. The best are not necessarily the most expensive. I found a little old lady through some friends that read t-leaves and tarot and wouldn’t take a penny piece for giving me a reading (which I’d like to add was one he best readings I’ve ever had) I’ve also paid a small fortune to have an ‘advertised’ reader look into my future, who from the moment I entered his house, felt he had me pegged and gabbed at me for half an hour a complete load of rubbish that wasn’t relevant to my life then or since. I left feeling really cheated only to find out later that others who had been to him also felt the same way. Tape what is being said to you or take notes. Some times there’s so much information to be told to you that it’s not possible to remember it all. Not just that but it’s always interesting to look back on a few years later and see how much of what was said has happened. Another thing is that tarot is all based on trends. The cards may say that something is going to happen but you can go out of your way to prove or disprove it. They only advise on how things look from the time that they’re being read to you. Sometimes it can be really helpful, advising you to stop a certain way of life or ‘this is what’ll happen’ type thing. Just remember your future isn’t set in stone things change all the time even the little things can build up to make a big change lol. Tarot cards are really just a forecast of what’s to come and even the best weather men get it wrong sometimes. Listen to what’s read to you and absorb it you never know when it’ll come in handy in the future. Let me know how it turns out for you Kirsty ps i like the little smiley people. Very cool.

hey Kirsty how are ya? I was just thinking of you and tarot..I was wondering if you do your own readings and how you go about it since I have found it to be a bit frustrating lol..because we have the ability to manipulate the cards ya know..since I handle mine almost every day.. also what deck do you use and what spreads do you recommend? oh and thanks for giving astralanchor such great insights and advice..for me I go to a place Ive been going for years, they have many readers there and I get to choose which one I want and they also tape it for you..so Its a good place to me..I also took a tarot class there as well.. but I llike it there because the readers are very diverse in how they read..and they incorperate differant things to their readings such as runes/tea leaves...

Hi Ronnie,
I’ve been using tarot for about tarot for about 14 years, but have been surrounded by it for much longer then that. Both my parents read the cards though I would say my father is better at it then my mum. It’s quite strange really; he’s a very straight laced sort of bloke who was a captain in the Merchant Navy. You would never place him hand in hand with a deck of tarot cards. Lol
I guess when I was little I just watched and got interested in it that way. My mother gave me my first set of tarot cards when I was 11. It was an old, well used, loved set of cards I choose from the collection and my dad took the time to sure me how to read them when he was on leave and the rest I learnt from books over time.
The current set of cards I’m using is the Barbara Walker Tarot. Personally I love them because I have small hands and they’re only the size of playing cards so they fit snugly in my hands when I shuffle. On saying that though, there’s a new set of cards on their way from America as I type. Le Tarot de Marseille. These are similar to the set which I first started with. My old favourites used to be The Mythical Tarot purely because I love Greek mythology and the symbolism they had hidden within the cards.
As for what spread I use… well it depends on the question, if I’m doing it for myself or someone else, if I’m working to a specific time scale etc but my fall back spread I reckon would be the Celtic Cross (though I have been known to do the one card draw in cases of emergencies and lack of time lol).
I do readings for anybody that asks for them, friends, family and colleagues. Sometimes in person, over the phone (and e-mail readings to people occasionally when I’m up for a huge writing session)
I do read my own cards several times a weeks. I’m not really sure that I would say I’m worried about influencing them though I do test them occasionally to make sure there not playing silly buggars with me lol. I would say it usually works to my own advantage reading my own cards as nobody knows me like me. Also my reading takes a quarter of the time as it would if I was doing them for somebody else. (I like to weave the cards into each other so they follow on smoothly.)
I must say I’m quite lucky, I live in a house with two other tarot readers so if I do feel I’m manipulating the reading at all I can go to them at any time to check. Tarot is a part of my life and I do truly believe they work in trends. A few times I have just about stood on my head to stop some things from happening which I was told about, only to forget about it and have it happen at a later date. Maybe you can only postpone some things as opposed to stopping them completely.

hi kirsty, thats cool so you guys are settled in.. I love being in a new house..change is good I think, its the moving stuff from one house to the other that I hate lol..and congrats on your new job! interesting that you had parents that read tarot also, wow that must have been neat to see as a kid..I had to bring tarot into my life myself, which is okay..but I it would have been cool to have at least someone around who could teach me a bit..I didn't pick up tarot till I was 19.. so you like the Mythic tarot!lol that is my number one deck as of right now...so cool! yeah I love mythology too and the cards are very indepth as you said , sometimes its hard for me to really understand what the cards are trying to get across to me..lol I also like the spiral deck, its very colorful and energetic..that is probably my second favorite but I started with a used waite deck and still use that but only for others not myself..I found that having others use my personal deck often my energy influences their readings too much ..is that true for you as well? also do you do readings as a profession or hobby and do you charge for readings? I have tried to do it as a profession, however it just wasn't enough income lol..so I decided to do it for a hobby and maybe down the road as side job type deal.. as for spreads I usualy do the celtic cross for others and turning point for myself which I have posted in the tarot board.. im interested in perhaps a reading from you..if you don't mind..?? and yeah you are very lucky to have readers in your home..I have readers down the street but I have to pay for them lol.. oh and is there any particular book you recommend for tarot? sorry so many questions..lol I don't have anyone around me to discuss tarot with! so its a blessing to have the internet! thanks kirsty..

Hi Ronnie,
I agree love being able to put my things in new places in a house, though I hate the packing and then trying to find everything.
As for tarot I’ve never done it professionally but would make a small killing if I started charging everyone lol. It’s not really a hobby either just a part of weekly life. The cards seem to come out when summoned so to speak. A friend will come round for coffee and they’ll appear or we’ll be sat around the front room discussing something and out they come lol.
So far I wouldn’t say any particular book on tarot that has stood out for me. I carry my own opinions on how things should be done have always worked with my intuition on tarot readings. Learning new spreads is always interesting though, to see if you can work with them so to speak.
Sure you can have a reading; I would love to see if I can go Trans Atlantic lol. It would be a good test/challenge for me.
I have cards that I let people handle but the new set coming is going to be the sacred set. I have many plans for energising them and keeping them purely for me. Also want to try dreaming on at some point to see what happens.
If you ever wanna chat tarot come find me. It’s always good to be able to share your opinions in the things that interest you.

awesome kirsty!! yeah I have many things going on right now and its very hard to see what the cards are trying to show me at this time..for example I get confused about the High Priestess often..due to her meanings of trusting intuition and representing secrets lol..not sure..most of the time I take her card a sign to follow my intuition..however that can be clouded by the mind often lol..so it can get confusing.. sometimes I think for online its easier to do readings if someone has a deck..that way their energies/mind is in the cards..would that be something you would want to do for me?? perhaps ya know you can choose a spread that you are comfortable with and I can draw out the cards and send you the cards I get.Im not sure if that would be the best bet or not..well its up to you since you are giving the reading how ever you wish to do it is quite fine! and yeah we should chat sometime in the chatroom about tarot or even email..that would be nice... interesting you brought dreaming up with tarot..have you ever had any experiences with the tarot and your dreams?? I have actually had several..and even a few obe's where I left my body and read my cards but before I induced the obe..I laid the cards out on my kitchen table..in order to get a glimpse of what the future had in store for me..it was very interesting and very insightful Ill have to find the entire post of it and let you read it..I also oddly enough sat 5 cards I drew next to me while I took a nap once and my dreams explained one card to the next of what the cards were trying to express to me..when I awoke I realized every dream I had surround the meanings of the cards and my dreams showed me people/places and even spiritual obstacles that was ahead of me at that point in my life... and this got me thinking..perhaps that I had built a connection with the cards..or already had a strong one and wasn't aware of it.. lol gosh I can ramble sometimes.. anyway I think its great you want to try to dream with them..I know that doing magic with the tarot can help bring on dreams and of course meditation.. but yeah Ill get back with ya soon and let me know how you would like to do the reading!! thanks so much...

Hiya Ronnie
Sounds like a lovely deck. Will have to take a gander at it sometime. I’m still waiting on mine to come through. Money left the bank yesterday so hopefully shouldn’t be too long.
I haven’t had a control OBE before and I’ve never tried dreaming on the tarot though I do occasionally dream I’m picking up cards or reading them but I’ve never gone to sleep with the intention of doing that it’s just happened spontaneously.
I reckon the best way for me to do a Trans Atlantic reading for you I would be if you send me your question and I’ll do the shuffle and read for you. I should have a long weekend coming up over the next month or so we should get our heads together then to sort it all out.
Have you ever found your cards get annoyed with you before? Do you ask the cards about spiritual or material matters? O …. One last question do you read the reverse meanings of your cards? (I find I only do that when I have a deck that been made for that purpose)
Sorry I lied one more question lol. Do you stick to the rigid guidelines of what each card means or do you use the interpretations that come with the deck? I normally use the one that come with the deck because of the intention the makers have put in it but sometime that doesn’t always make sense so I go back to basics.
Speak soon Kirsty

hey kirsty..sound good to me! and yeah its more me getting frustrated with the cards because I use them often, maybe to often lol..and sometimes Ill do a quick test and Ill think of a card(usually negative) and it will fly out of the deck lol..but maybe that is because Im putting too much influence on certain cards. and yeah I use the cards for both spiritual and physical things, but I use a special spread for spiritual and another deck for that..and found that to be more effective in finding my spiritual path/course at that time in my life.. umm I don't use reversals at all..lol I just have always thought there are enough negative cards in the deck lol..and I feel that reversals are there to show us extremes and to get there point across to pay attention to certain cards and for me I found that if a card wants to get your attention it will without having to use reversals..plus its too confusing lol..too much to remember..haha oh and honestly I have kind of created my own interpretations for the cards together with the basics..but when learning a new deck I do look over certain cards that may not stand out to me with thier meanings ya know..for example the mythic deck has many differant things designed into the cards so yeah I do make sure I learn particular cards meanings, but I have trouble following books because there are so many meanings..so I just go with my gut instinct alot of times and if I don't understand something I use a clarification card or I do a simple test with the cards in a differant spread.. It took me a while to learn tarot my way..it was difficult because I was shown to many differant methods of reading at once and many differant meanings..but Im happy to say Ive found my own way of reading..and I just let them speak to me..ya know. I took a tarot class about two years ago and I became great friends with my teacher, well she also read through crystal balls..and anyway I use to hang out with her alot and one time I read for her and she read for me..and something happend lol I ended up seeing many things that she could not..in fact she got bad at me and said"don't touch my cards" because I was showing her something in my reading she did not see and she didn't like that too much..in fact I learned that she was just telling me a bunch of crap..lol yep..and soon after that our friendship ended.. and this person does this for a living ya know, she only reads tarot and lives off of that.. I don't know, that kind of dissappointed me because afterall she had shown me alot..but to learn that she herself was just making things up! but that was a huge turning point for me and tarot, because from there I learned my own way of reading and really stuck with that.. sorry this was a huge post!lol
