When I was in high school my friends and I used to do some pretty high speed sledding... One year after our local ski resort closed, there was still a lot of snow left, so a couple friends and I went to hike up the ski runs with this thing called "the fun island". It was like a raft but it didn't have any sides and was circular. It was made for use on a lake I think where kids could just swim from it and climb on it and it was big enough to fit about 4 people on it.
So anyway, me and two friends dragged this all the way to the top of a ski run. The first time down we made it about half-way, but then we hit a bump and my friend Matt got popcorned about 6 feet in the air and landed just behind the raft. Since we'd lost him, my other friend and I dropped off the back and stopped the raft and went back up.
Ok so the next run we made it a lot farther. It was a wide straight run and we were staying right in the middle and everything was going fine, but then down at the bottom we got to this section where the snow had gotten really lumpy and cracked because it was melting. We were flying... and my same friend Matt got popcorned up into the air again, but this time he landed in front of us and we just nailed him lol. It was just like hitting a groundhog in a car or something. He rolled underneath us when we plowed over him, but he didn't just roll, it was a sumersault. We kept right on going lol. I looked back right after we hit him and he was still rolling down the run 'cause of the momentum from being hit. It was absolutely hilarious.
(He was ok)
That reminds me of another thing that happened to that same friend... We used to get on these long skateboards called longboards and go down hills and one time we went into the countryside to look for some new hills, and we found some really good ones. We got to one really steep one and I went ahead and went down, but I just barely made it. The road was a little too narrow to turn enough to really control your speed. Now we didn't wear pads or anything, and my friend Matt decided to come down next... but he wasn't on a skateboard, he was on this little invention called "the skiboard". I was like a skateboard but you stood facing downhill on it like skiing. he got about 1/3 of the way down before he started to lose control... starting at about half way down he was just going straight trying to ride it out. Those things start to wobble at really high speeds and he didn't make it. He crashed and tumbled on the pavement and got bloody scrapes everywhere except his head. Now, the funny part was that we were a long way from home and we hadn't eaten all day, so we then went into a restaurant with my friend all covered in blood. He was wearing shorts and a t-shirt and I don't think there was a spot of skin on him that wasn't scraped. Everybody was like "what happened to him" lol. That guy really took a lickin and kept on tickin.
Ok, one more story...
When we were around twelve years old, we used to play this game where one person would get on a four-wheeler and drive around while the other people threw snowballs at him. Whoever hit the driver with a snowball got to get on the four-wheeler next. We used to play in our backyard which had this big, 7 foot high wooden fence around it so that the driver couldn't go too far. The fence was pretty heavy duty too. Anyway... one time one of our friends was driving on the four-wheeler and my brother and I were throwing snowballs at him. Just as the driver was on a downhill and about to turn in front of the fence I hit him on the wrist. He then accelerated and plowed right through the fence. It was also at a part where there was a 15 foot really steep hill right on the other side of the fence, ending in the road. When we ran over to look our friend was laying in the road with his four-wheeler upside down and splintered wood laying everywhere. lol One of our neighbors saw it too and came running over to see if he was allright. He and his four-wheeler were ok:)
