Hello everyone!
I wish to start a guided work through the book “The Art of Dreaming” by Carlos Castaneda.
I know that many people on the forum are already reading or have read the book, but for anyone else who is interested it is available in paperback for about £8. You would be able to get the book from most good book stores, or online from somewhere such as Amazon.
I do not intend to start the book for around four weeks so this should give anyone who is interested but does not yet own the book a chance to get hold of a copy. A start date will be finalised after interest has been gauged so that we can best suit it to as many people as possible.
If anyone is unfamiliar with the book, it follows the initiation of Carlos Castaneda by a Yaqui Indian sorcerer called Don Juan. The book focuses on lucid dreaming, OBE and astral projection which are all referred to as the gates to dreaming.
One of the most interesting side effects reported by those reading this book is a profound clarity of dreams, many people do not actually finish the book for this very reason. I believe that this book would offer an excellent group opportunity and would hope to see some shared experiences towards the end.
My personal guidance through this book would be offered to you chapter by chapter, although do bare in mind that this would not be a Castaneda workshop as I do not advocate all of his views.
Everyone taking part will have their own thread to post their dreams which should be recorded after every night along with any thoughts you may have about them or the material in the book.
In addition I will keep a thread with my own thoughts and dreams, and in addition I will write a summary of each chapter, as regards the metaphysics and techniques. I imagine the pace being a chapter a week, but this could be variable due to peoples progress. If you were to read the chapter in one night you should not read the next chapter until the beginning of the next week, but you should continue to log your dreams and thoughts thereof.
I will further to that open a questions and answers thread and I would encourage everyone to ask questions if they are stuck, and to also answer questions if they feel they can help out another person. I would do my up most best to maintain a good presence on the questions and answers thread but I would be limited to around two hours per day.
If anyone is interested in taking part please leave your name on this thread, if further to that you have specific requests based on the times that you are available or any ideas for this group project please also leave a message on this thread.
Once we have agreed a start date I will set up all the threads that are required and send out instructions to everyone who has requested to take part.
As a further note I will also accept questions by email, if they are of a nature that you would not want published on the forum, after all dreams can be pretty weird, right!
At the end of the experiment I would encourage you all to compile your own conclusions, what you learned and what you have gained, I will then compile everything into a huge document with a final conclusion which will be made available to everyone who took part and other members of the forum.
Kind Regards
Gav
