How exciting!! Went into town to today just to buy a new journal for the experiment (also found some very nifty little pens lol). Find i keep looking at the book and having to mentally restrain myself from picking it up to take a seek peek at it. Gonna have to get Gav to hide it somewhere lol. My sister in law, Jo, has gone to get the book too. As we're all living together it's gonna be doubley exciting to see if there is any trends in our dreams. About a couple of days before the experiment i'm going to make notes on my dreams to see if their's any difference between how they are now and when we all start reading. Plus i guess it will also get me use to waking up to write about everything before i forget. Not a good morning person at the best of times not sure what damage i can do with a pen at 6am lol

I read through the posts and I may have missed it- is there start date for this? I just want to make sure I schedule it in. I ended up finishing the book because, well, I really wanted to. And while reading it, it occurred to me that I would need to read it again. lol, especially the first half. So, I'm ready to go. Just want to know when.
Toodles!

How is everyone fixed for August the 8th. That is a monday.
If everyone who wishes to take part can try and get the book by then, we will start at that point.
If everyone can just add a post to this thread saying something like, I have the book and I am ready, once they have the book, or I dont yet have the book but I wish to take part I should have the book by .....
This will help us to decide if the 8th of August is a good start date for all involved.
Regards Gav

Sometimes I wonder if everyone is reading the same book I bought at the bookstore.
I picked it up and started reading it. Despite my attempts to keep an open mind, it all struck me as such a load of tripe, not to mention the book is tremendously boring (at least to me). Also, I've heard a lot of evidence about Don Juan being a hoax (ironically enough, the most convincing evidence came from the same person who got me to be less closed-minded about OBEs in general).
I don't mean to dissuade anybody, I'm just putting in my opinion about The Art of Dreaming. I found it very difficult to swallow.

The 8th of August would be perfect for me. I`ve read the book twice, but still find it difficult to swallow too lol, thats also a reason why Im looking forward to do a thorough work on it.. aaand most important of course because it will be fun and surely will initiate a lot in me and each one because we`re doing it together, and there`s nothing more powerful than doing something together. lgn

I want to be in on this. I ordered the book today. They said it would be here between Aug. 3 -17. I've ordered from Amazon before and it came even before the estimated date. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I hope it gets here in time. I don't want to hold you guys start date up so if it doesn't, I'll just catch up.

Thanks for taking part CC,
as far as I am concerned, this is a group activity, it belongs to all of us, so if people have registered their interest and have not had the book arrive quite in time, we can wait.
(and all with questions regarding the material)
I will write an introduction before the group begins that will cover the contradictions surrounding Don Juan, and a little on the philosophy of the author.
As a quick note one of his primary philosophies was one of un-attainability. In that people should not record or dwell on the past, as it no longer exists and leads to paths of attainability. The most powerful and free person is one that is totally unattainable and surrounded by confusion, as no one can pigeon hole them based on their past or find them to affect their present, When asked of his past Don Juan would usually state that it was not important.
Given that this was a primary philosophy I would have been very disappointed if I had been able to find Don Juan who should have been ultimately unattainable. This also adds a layer of misdirection between the reader and Carlos who through Don Juan is able to remain somewhat unattainable.
One of the most important teachings of the holistic Castaneda series is that it really does not matter whether Don Juan exists or not, as is also the case with everything, if people believe in the strength of his character then on one level or another he exists for certain.
Definitely approach the work with an open mind, but also don’t absolutely consider the work as a gospel account of everyday reality. We will of course have much more opportunity to discuss these and any other issues as the group progresses.
One of the major assets of this book, and this stands as a fact regardless of its reality or the traceability of Don Juan is that most of those who read it have a profound increase in awareness within their dreams.
Another is that contained within its structure although perhaps somewhat shrouded is a clear indication of a very thorough knowledge of dreaming and astral projection progression and technique, and this is a fact regardless of it source, be it Don Juan or yoga.
The story is just the method of delivery.
Kindest Regards
Gav

Well it's just that I'm kind of coming in here late and I would no want to be the cause of holding you guys up.
It seems like a fun project to do and I've really been getting into dreams lately. Mine seem to be getting more interesting al the time..
Anyways, I'm looking forward for this project to start. I have not read any of this guys books. While ordering today I noticed that he has written a lot.

Linda and everybody, I totally agree on Gav that this is a group thing and we can wait as long as its needed so everybody who wants to join can start and join it at the same time. In between of course we can do lots of preparations like to find questions each one maybe got on his/her own anyways or whatever comes up to that theme. And like Gav said, he also will give us an introduction which maybe also does need some time to be digested. So we have enough to start with anyhow I think and on top please bear with me, Im not the fastest lol, I can not hurry through that work haha. Looking exciting forward. lgn

Thanks Ronni, The avatar looks better on your forum than what it does on Ricks. At least I finally found one that works. I looking forward to this project. I need to do something. I haven't had an OBE or a lucid since forever. But I do get a lot of those little flicker images. I don't even have to be meditating to get them now. Sometimes they are just audio, sometimes feeling/touch and then I have the visual images.
I just noticed your new avatar. That is really cool. Did you make that or find it somewhere? I like it.

Hey everyone. As most of you know I just moved in with my uncle and started a job. The situation hasn't been very conducive for meditation, but I would like to take part in this as much as I can... I wish we were doing this like 2 months from now because I'll have my own place again, but maybe it won't be too bad. My uncle is someone who I might be able to share a dream or two with as he is a natural lucid dreamer and/or projector. Well we'll see. I haven't done much in the way of meditation here yet, but I'll try to keep up.
I haven't read the whole book yet, so I'll try to do that too. I haven't even read half.

Yes great Blake, you have to, have to join us, anyhow best you can, just as often as you can be here, otherwise you would be truly missed. But Im wondering a bit, cause everybody is in a hurry to read that book already. I mean we can read it, but I understood it as if we would read it together, like piece by piece, so why that hurry? I`ve read it twice and still.. lol.. need to read it some more times I guess, to really internalize, but I rather wait till the introduction of Gav is here and then I`ll give it a new start. So hey again, Im looking forward. lgn
