by William Buhlman ;D I'm rereading it right now and I think it has some absolutely brilliant ideas, such as how our state of mind to a large degree influences our efforts at astral projection. I think I completely overlooked that fact last time I was practicing. My life was chaotic at the time and probably influenced the kinds of experiences I was having in a major way. One example was the fact that even though I experienced vibrations many times I got way too excited and startled myself out of them.
Here's the direct quote from the book, describing step 1, which seems like a key for me: "The first step to a successful, self-controlled out-of-body experience is to remain mentally and emotionally calm as you begin to recognize any form of movement or shift in your awareness. Your ability to remain calm is essential for achieving and maintaining any degree of control when out-of-body. The initial sensations associated with out-of-body experiences can be startling to the beginner. This is especially true if you are unprepared for the experience. Many times this excitement is caused by the intense sensations and sounds that may occur just before and during separation. Some people become so excited or startled by these inner sounds and sensations that they immediately think of their physical body. This causes an instant “snap back” into the physical. The key is to welcome the unusual vibrations and sounds and to remain as calm as possible."

I've never read that book but many others on the subject. Reading any book about dreaming or OBE's does really prime yourself to achieve it. Much easier to get lucid when you're reading about it all the time especially before bed.
About the quote. To me learning to OBE is similar to lucid dreaming in that like it says you have to remain emotionally calm and unexcited or you can really cut the experience short. I learned how to have super long LD's by learning how to control my emotions especially my excitement level during them.
At this point and for quite some time now I've had a big block up as far as OBE's go. Awhile back when I was active here on this forum I became quite good at OBE's but after a few bad experiences I've put up this block to where now I panic and try to wake myself up when I find myself in SP (sleep paralysis) instead of just having an OBE. It's something that I really need to get over. It's almost like a phobia or something. It's like having some kind of traumatic thing happen to you that makes you scared or panic when you find yourself in that situation again.

awesome derek, and for me obe's helped me to master the physical body and how attached we really think we are to it, and once we can realize the body is in the soul, and the soul is NOT in the body the body becomes obsolete, and only relative here of course, cuz I need my limbs to get around lol..but seriously I mastered my body and took control over it and just kept thinking this body is holding me back, and it was, over and over again, because I still hold my core beleifs that we are not leaving the body at all, we are simply seperating our beleifs of the body and the physical world in order to grab onto what is really there. soo maybe those that have troubles with obe's try that, try saying to oneself"my body is in my soul" in fact I read that somewhere as well, after I managed to master this detachment obes were easy for me, I simply got up every morning after cutting my sleep in half down to 3or 4 hours a night I would read and keep my mind alert and active , however my body needed rest so when it did it got heavy and I would prolong it untill my body just couldnt stay up anymore , than I would say Okay Im ready! than I would lay down and the rest is history lol anyway, you should for sure give this book a read, its differant, however you must remember your constantly engaging in williams subconsious, so alot of what he says can easily be missunderstood, great book none the less...and I think im gonna post my lil magic trick to launch obe's in the obe board, but see now its so hard for me, I got lost in this physical world for years now, putting all my energy into whats around me...Im heading back home though back to my oasis lol

Some great points, Ronni. I do agree with body being in the soul. Although I think for me it's more like I'm bringing my daily consciousness with me to another dimension of my soul. I might be too tired to articulate exactly what I want to express here. Derek, if you can't go through the front door, go through the back. Meaning, if you have block when it comes to direct projection, why don't you intend to go straight out of body from one of your lucid dreams? You have such incredible control already. I think it might take me another ten years of practice to get to that level Hopefully, sooner, with your help As for that one realization for myself, wow, it produced a lot of growth for me. I applied it to all kinds of different areas in my life and finally thought hey, that's exactly what my biggest challenge is, to RELAX! Then I told my husband and he said: "Well, I told you that when we first met". LOL He really likes to take credit for all my breakthroughs ;D
