I was coming home from class and hit a huge buck walking out right in the middle. I was terrified. I felt so incredibly sad for him. He was so big and beautiful. Wish I could have changed it. I considered not going to my class, and almost regret that I didn't decide to stay home. It was so sad to watch him on the side of the road. I hope, despite the odds, that he makes it....I called 911 to get somebody to come take a look at him and I drove away, since I had a hungry baby waiting for me at home. It was very sad

Lena , I am glad you are Ok. Did you know hitting a deer can total a car and kill the people inside! Was your vehicle damaged? If you did not hit it to hard, it could of just knock it out. One thing you should never do, once you hit one, is to get out of the car to see if it's ok or not. People have been killed for doing that as well. One kick from an upset deer, can kill.

I don't really know if he'll be OK. I called 911 and the said they were sending out an officer to take a look. I wanted to stay, but I had a hungry fussy baby at home waiting. So I prayed for the best and went on my way. He couldn't get up, but he wasn't laying down either. He was holding his head up and sort of half sitting. IF they will decide to take him and nurse him back to health and release him, yes, he'll be OK, but that is a big if. I just don't know. As much as I love our car and it's our most priced possession, I didn't even look at it at first, until the other person who stopped asked. It has a very small dent I think, although I still didn't take a good look. I saw him walk out, so I slammed on my breaks, but I was going too fast to stop entirely or slow down enough not to make any damage I went over it in my head considering what I could do differently. If anything I needed to have my brights on. I do question if it's some sort of sign...There must at least be a meaning to it.

Don't blame yourself, Lena. Things just happen sometimes. At least you didn't hit him really hard straight on and put yourself into peril also. Hopefully he's ok, but maybe it was just his time, you know.

My niece swerved to miss a deer last week and it sent her into a ditch. After getting hauled out, something broke under the frame of her van and the thing flipped over. Fortunetly, she escaped with bruises and a sore shoulder.
Deer and moose are the two big things in my neck of the wood to watch out for while driving. Especially the moose.
