Dream Mapping is something that I've recently been getting into. It's very interesting because it helps you to start to pin point key areas that you dream of along with dream characters associated with them. Plus you begin to get a really good feel for location and direction (North, East, etc.) in your dreams. There's many ways to go about dream mapping and there really isn't a wrong way, which ever way works best for you. Here's an example of dream mapping from one of my entries.
Basically wake whenever through out the night and record dreams into your dream journal and then take all your dreams and break them into a list of locations, a little of dream content if necessary, and dream characters. It's not necessary to put detail because it's already in your dream journal. The point of dream mapping really is to get locations. Plus I use alot of abbreviations for things so I'll write what they mean
Dream mapping 12/6/05
To bed 7:45pm wake 3:20am
1) Lucid Dream (LUK,Location Unknown)
2) At CEC (old job) and I see Mike arguing with his GF
3) Stung by bee at 569 (grandma's old house where I lived once as well), Turns to grocery store, outside grocery store which is Cash & Carry and Yildirim and my dad is here
4) turns to waterhole seems around either honey run or upper park, Elizabeth's kids, Dads old GF and her kids
BTS back to sleep 3:50am wake 5:40am
1) At 3549 (old childhood home) with old kids from here watching others play basketball
2) at restaurant with others being treated like kids (location seems from earlier dream at Cash & Carry)
3) At 1245 (where I live know) DJ and his GF here
4) Lara talking to old friends dad near 7-11 by safeway
Anyways this is just an example of how you can go about dream mapping. Another thing I do is actually draw a quick map of my town and then leave areas outside of it as well for unknown locations. I'll put dots and dates on the map of what I dream about. Other examples of ways you can abbreviate things is use (if you moved around a bit while a kid C1= childhood home 1, C2= childhood home 2, etc.
T1= known location, T2= unknown location, I like to use LUK=location unknown, 1245= address I live at, plus I like to use addresses to label places instead of writing out "Grandmas house".
Like I said there's many ways to go about Dream mapping so do what you want. The important thing is to do it in a fashion that's easy for you and doesn't make it seem like too much work. It's fun because you really start to get a feel for dream locations plus of what, who, and where you dream of the most. Soon unknown locations will become known dream locations though you don't know of the place in the physical. After dream mapping for a little I've found this certain area which seems to be out in the middle of nowhere that I've never been to in the physical but now realize that I've been to several times in dreams. Plus you'll start to find something called "transits". Transits are places in dreams that seem to teleport you to another location.
Well I didn't explain Dream Mapping as well as I wanted to but I'm still pretty new to it so I did my best.
I hope some of you add dream mapping to your dream journal because it's very interesting and over time I feel we'll learn alot from it.
