Didn't really know where else to post this but I thought you all might be interested in hearing my news. I'm pretty excited about it.
I got a letter the other day stating that the poem "Puppy dog eyes" that I sent in to poetry.com for the poetry contest was accepted as a semi-finalist. This final competition will be held in September. As a semi-finalist I have a chance at winning one of 104 cash prizes which includes a $1,000.00 grand prize. I could even win the $10,000.00 annual grand prize. Not only that my poem will be published in the "Eternal Portraits" coffee-table hardbound book. I will have a whole page dedicated to my poem and the adjoining page dedicated to my personal information. So I will have two whole pages spotlighting me. I'm so excited and happy, when I entered the poem I didn't think it would go this far. But the selection committee thought differently. They say my poem shows a unique talent and artistic vision. And since my poem was selected for publication I am eligible to attend The International Society of Poet's Summer Convention and Symposium in D.C. on August 19-21.

cool thats great to hear anise!! however I would look up poetry scams online to see if this is one of them, because they have been sending me the same thing about one of my poems, and I think I have to buy the book in order for it to be published, and they gain the rights of the poem..so anyway, Im just trying to help you, because over half of these anthologie publishers are scams.. which i hope its not in your case... just want you to be aware of what could happen if it is a scam.. good luck and let me know for sure what it is..

Thank you for the heads up. I don't have to buy the book for it to be published and the poem is copywritten in my name so I retain the rights to it.

I can't go to the convention. I'm out of town until next weekend and can't get back for the event. But I don't have to be there (for the contest I am already entered is a different event). The convention has it's own contest and seminars and whatnot. I am proud, I never thought of anything like this when I wrote it.

yeah thats very cool..ya know I used to get books that would list publishers, and what I would do is send out my poetry to many of them at once to get published..and I did manage to get published a few times..I still have all the papers and books from that..so it was pretty cool I was 19 when I did that.. thats something else you can do..there is a magazine out there that is just for poetry..you would find it at borders, anyway, it lists publishers and all kinds of ways to get published, even agents that would help you get your poetry published..there is many things you can do for this..also another way to get your poetry popular is for greeting cards, I have done this too..and I think they pay you well for it,..however they buy your poems..but just an idea for you! good luck!!!!

Wow I didn't know about all of that. Thanks a bunch for the tip. Yeah I'll definately look into it. When my husband found out one of my poems is going to be published he was just overjoyed. Then I told him about a lot of other things I've written and he said maybe I should get paid to write lol. I was like but I don't know how. It would be nice to remain owner of your work in those cases where you get by the card companies. I might look more into these options. Thanks again for the info
