Approaching Numbers In preparing this class, the first option possible was to start off by pointing you to a lengthy description of each number, then proceed to calculations before giving clues to understanding how all the numbers interact with each other. I'll opt for a more intuitive approach which will both keep you from feeling overwhelmed with information and needing to jump on each number's description while studying a chart (as it'd happen in the beginning at least). I will give you the wordy interpretation at some point but at that time all you'll read will seem pretty obvious to you. And once we've seen what each Number mean you'll nearly be able to make sense out of a raw chart with your hands tied in your back. 1) One digit numbers, Master numbers, Karmic debts numbers. In the same way as Signs in Astrology, numbers represent different types of "personalities" in Numerology. The more accurate and widely used term is "Archetype". I'll detail it's origin and various fields of use in the off-topic section, for now we'll stick to numbers as describing distinct psychological packages that we'll try to define as intuitively as possible in a first time. This will be the point of the first assignment (thread A1) in which I'll outline each number from 1 to 9 through a character. I'll ask you to meditate over them and try to picture how they'd think, feel or act in their life, at home or at work, what would cheer them up, or turn them off,… Then come up with at least 2 "positive" and "negative" qualities they'd be likely to display. If you feel like getting further and develop it into mini texts, go for it. I'll post the answers compiled from the work of my previous class' students in a few days.

These are the definitions compiled from the work by the last class. You will notice some numbers will have 1 or 2 quality/ies in common. There however is a difference in the motivation or the way it's expressed which we'll define in a next assignment.
1 Keywords : + ambitious, assertive, leader, pioneer, self reliant, original. - aggressive, domineering, rash, egotistical, stubborn
1 signifies someone who likes to stand alone, be assertive, and achieve recognition for his or her talents. Therefore, the 1 is very ambitious, independent and very focused on his goals. He is the type of person who insists on his right to make up his own mind, and demands freedom of thought and action and usually gets the best results when working on his own. He is extremely driven and determined and doesn't let anything or anyone stand in his way once committed to a goal. He demands a lot of respect and attention, and becomes irritated and even domineering when things don't go his way. He/she is someone who can be very stubborn and this trait has both its good and bad effects. There is a need to feel in command and seeks the top and being the centre of attention and praise. (Starz) May feel undervalued at times. May have the loner mentality and be likely to travel often. Might have difficulty expressing emotions such as love and compassion. This person may be perceived as cold and unfeeling. Can be intimidating in first impressions. Maybe intense and highly influential. Also, may have a need for power and authority in all aspects of their life. (Ayumi) The type to move up very fast at his job and not afraid to make enemies in the process. Undecided people, who do not know where they are going in life turns them off. People like themselves turn them on. (Cythena) Some negative traits are selfishness, conceit and too much concern with appearance. Also, other traits are an overzealous behavior, anger and aggressiveness. 1 is the kind of person whose attitudes are feel if aren't in control would become a person who is excessively domineering, vindictive and even violent. (Starz) He often overlooks the feelings of others, he'll do whatever he can to reach the top, even if it means hurting those closest to him (Halfwaynowhere) If they don't get their way, they tend to be irritable and may not hesitate to end the relationship if the disagreement between himself and another is great enough. (Flaire)
2 Keywords : + sensitive, intuitive, considerate, quiet, balanced, caring, harmoniser. - emotional, shy, clingy, passive, moody, manipulative, attention seeker.
2's nature is that of a peacemaker. 2 is very sensitive, perceptive and a bit shy. These qualities can be both strengths and weaknesses. This is because even though she might feel extremely sensitive other peoples feelings the same sensitivity is usually the cause of her holding back and repressing her talents. 2's awareness of others feelings results in her being able to be very diplomatic and tactful. 2 is also very patient, understanding and cooperative. 2 needs balance and things to be alright and anything that could disrupt its peaceful environments he/she tries to avoid. (Starz) 2 wants everybody to get along. She is quiet, like a mouse, but is always popping her nose in to make sure everything is going smoothly... she likes people to talk about their problems, to open up. her friends tend to walk all over her, they know they can count on her for support, but they also know she can easily be taken advantage of. She seems gullible at times, and they know what they can get away with.. (Halfwaynowhere) At home and work they'll do what they're told to do but I have doubts that they'll take risks in fear of causing an upset in the environment. I wouldn't put it past a 2 to be extremely cautious and second guess themselves constantly. (Flaire) A negative quality is that she has a very delicate ego that bruises easily, and usually makes too much of someone else's thoughtless remarks or criticisms- 'moutain out of a molehill'- expression that comes ot mind. Because she gets easily hurt, she doesn't usually say what's on her mind and holds back on her thoughts and contributions to any matter at hand. 2 is a perfectionist when it comes to your home and work environment. Some negative traits are 2's are usually very self-consciousness, fearful, stuck on details and over-conscientiousness. (Starz)
3 Keywords : + creative, expressive, optimistic, bold, outgoing, artistic. - extravagant, shallow, chatterboxer, manipulative, self-indulgent
3 possesses a lot of talent in creativity and self-expression. He is witty, possesses a gift for gab and savor the limelight. Due to his gift of self-expression, he/she can be the life of a party and the center of attention. 3's are optimistic, and posses the resilience to overcome many setbacks. He/she is socially active, popular and inspires people with a happy-go-lucky attitude. (Starz) 3 is a free spirit. she dances expressively. she dresses outrageous, yet everything looks good on her. she is kind to all, which makes her stand out so much more. everybody knows her and admires her for her self expression. she sees everything as art. (Halfwaynowhere). Three will not be happy in a rigid or corporate setting and disdains being told how to do things. Three needs freedom to express himself and spend his time doing what he feels is right for the moment. Three is creative, open-minded, unable to stick to a routine and bored easily. (Vimilanda) Some negative traits are being disorganized, and not particularly serious about his/her responsibilities.3's are emotional and vulnerable. They get hurt easily and when this happens he usually clams up and then covers everything up with jokes and laughter. He can become moody and cynical when depressed and can result in sarcastic remarks, which can be painful to people around. Thus, a 3 is person who would exaggerate a lot, has no real direction in life and is very lazy as well. (Starz) This person would have a tendency to become fake if surrounded by people unlike themselves (Ayumi) His faults would include, too much of an open book on good days and critical towards other peoples work. (Cythena)
4 Keywords : + reliable, analytical, builder, ordered, methodical, responsible - rigid, dull, stern, control-freak, taciturn, risk-aversed
This person's concentration would prove to be remarkable and they would most likely have a good eye for both the details and the big picture. They would not be the comforting type, and may be hard to understand. Would be very intelligent and may be lured out of silence by an intellectually stimulating conversation. Formalities and accepted methods of working would govern this person. (Ayumi) I see this person as being very meticulous. The type of person who always double checks to be sure he has his plane tickets before he leaves the house. Very cautious is his choice of activities. An early to bed, early to rise type of person who would most likely follow a strict daily routine. Eat the same foods in the same restaurants, etc. (Bronach Druid) A positive 4 has the gift of logical analysis and the balance of trade-offs. Once 4 is given a task, 4 carefully organizes materials, resources, manpower, time, etc to achieve the net effect with a minimum of fuss. Being a detailed plan maker gives 4 a talent for quickly grasping and relaying information or operations that follow a linear order. A negative 4 is slow to react to disruptions or new information that does not fall into The Plan. Also, because of the need to carefully analyze all options before undertaking the task, 4 can be labeled as "methodical" and seen as slow to start or uninspired. (KellyP) The negatives of the number are fears of downsizing, the inability to handle anything out of the normal routine and being too rigid. (Bethra)
5 Keywords + charming, sensuous, quick-minded, traveller, adventurous, adaptable to change - vamp/womaniser, shallow, irresponsible, greedy, restless, childish
This person may be or be seen as an opportunist. It may be the case sometimes, but I think that others are just presented with the right opportunities and they act on them. One who is a number 5 probably would enjoy debates, just as long as the opponent did not get a turn. They are obviously very persuasive and would probably make a very good salesman as they are most likely going to be fairly observant people. This observance is probably of the human kind, as a good feel of others personalities would surely benefit them in the line of work. Emotions most likely take a back seat to a racing mind. This person is going to be the proverbial "hare" that runs and runs until it meets the finish line. Communication is going to be key to this person, who will most likely excel at different languages or new ways of communicating. (Ayumi) Always the charmer and gadabout, 5 is excellent at making the first impression or sealiing-the-deal. 5 is quick evaluator of personality as it quickly learns who is susceptible to the song-and-dance routine and who to avoid. A negative 5 is often seen as shallow or unfeeling when the popularity wears thin. While quick to get a group gathered about at parties 5 may find a lack of true friendships or genuine care from others. (KellyP) While they are attractive and alluring 5 is not always the most trustworthy or honest. (DianaStormDancer) The negative aspects of this number are restlessness to the point of boredom, distortion of truths and can be easily side tracked. (Bethra) + due to it's versatile nature, 5 signals significant changes are likely to occur when appearing in a cycle-related Number
6 Keywords : + protective, caring, loving, home-lover, artistic, sincere, counsellor. - smothering, self-sacrificial, stressed, overdoer.
6 is the nurturer the healer and mother figure. 6 takes care of all and tends to all and sees to the comfort of those around him. 6 is gentle and gracious and one feels secure in 6's presence (DianaStormDancer) This person is The first one to volunteer at the school functions or to run a fundraiser. I see this person feeling a deep sense of wanting to be needed. That in caring for home or children gives them a sense of accomplishment. (Bronach Druid) Six wants involvement with the elderly, children, the disabled or animals. Six finds pleasure in making life better for others. However, Six may put other’s well being above his own and not spend enough time on his own pursuits and health. (Vimilanda) A negative 6 must avoid losing self-identity while struggling so hard to support others. Unwarranted. martyrdom is a common result of 6's extreme behavior in subjugating one's own desires in order to assist others (KellyP)

7 is always hunting, always on a journey or quest. 7 requires answers and concrete proof in matters, they strive to learn and educate themselves to the highest potentials. Sages, wizards, professors, scientists, doctors 7 seeks knowledge and must practice great skills and accomplish fantastic feats. (DianaStormDancer) I think this person may also be the type who is out to prove something to themselves and the world. They may be a perfectionist, obsessed with knowing all they can to prove their intelligence. (Bronach Druid) They have goals and ambisions usualy of a spiritual nature. Often in need of time spent alone in conteplation of the universe, this person may often be a loner. They also have a natural tendancy to the obscure and can be often considered as unique or eccentric. Negative aspects of this number are a tendaqncey to apear too aloof and unaproachable. Fears of not living up to their own high standards may often hold them back from their goals. A loner who may find it impossible to maintain long term relationships of significance. (Bethra) Seven may look down on people who aren’t as learned as he and will grow impatient in conversations about mundane topics. Seven is unable to mingle and will feel awkward in social situations. (Vimilanda)
8 Keywords : + team-leader, achiever, bold, analytical, executive power, super-organized, provider. - greedy, control-freak, power-seeker, bossy, relentless, materialistic.,
This person seems like the one everything just seemed to come easy for, captain of the football team or head cheerleader. Never had to study for a test type person. Yet they are still very detail orientated, maybe the type of person who always has a "5 year plan" for their life. The type of person who keeps lists for things. (Bronach Druid) Eight works for (…) achievement. Applause and recognition, although appreciated are not as important to Eight as the knowledge of doing his job well. Eight takes pride in doing a task well. He is also good in motivating people by getting them excited about the possibility of successful outcome. Eight is a dreamer. He imagines what he wants and works to get it for the sole purpose of knowing it could be done. (Vimilanda) 8 is the master delegator able to match people's skills with tasks in such a way to accomplish the greatest effect. This number is competitive and willing to make the difficult decisions necessary to win. 8 is comfortable being the object of respect and directing the actions of large numbers of people. A negative 8 must guard against becoming a figurehead by contributing something of himself to the endeavors of his colleagues. 8 can be uncaring in the drive to win or hasty in an assessment of others, taking first impressions to heart. There is also a tendency to believe everyone shares 8's goals or dedication which causes him to unfairly question the work ethics of others. (KellyP) The negatives of this number that a person of this number may often lack feeling for those who stand in the way of goals. (Bethra) note : 8 is considered as an omen of wealth by some people if appearing in a chart's most significant Numbers. It's not always confirmed by facts depending on the other "lessons" that person has to learn. For example an 8 surrounded with spiritual numbers will make it less likely to happen.
9 Keywords : + compassionate, altruistic, artistic, teacher, intuitive, broad-minded, psychic - self-sacrificial, vain, touchy, aggressive, extremist, emotional, mysanthropic.
9 is a symbolically important number as it is the last of the single numbers, after it we return to the one or unity. This is the number of one who hovers on the edge of spiritual breakthrough. They are inward seekers who look to change the world around them through teachings and the pursuit of the inner light of the soul. This number often manifests in one who has incarnated many times and learnt many lessons. In this life they stand ready to receive the vision of "the big picture".(Bethra) They have very strong emotions and are very sensitive and compassionate. They are very dedicated and loyal. They are the type of person who wants to give to every charity, join every protest and save the world. (Bronach Druid) Nine may be prone to depression as he wants to fight for more causes than he has time or energy for. When major devastating world events happen Nine will feel overwhelmingly sad and will feel at a loss as the problem is too large for him to make a difference. Nine is happiest when he is influencing others to take up a cause or when he does something that directly helps his cause. He will try to educate people about his cause and may get angry with people of opposing viewpoints. (Vimilanda) 9 also expects others to feel things as deeply and may find itself rebuking others as uncaring. Unfortunately, wearing its heart on a sleeve, 9 also finds itself a target for scams by folks preying on the number's goodwill. (KellyP)

Even though every double digit number is technically called Master Number by Literature, the ones most commonly taken into account are 11, 22, and more recently 33. The theory tells us they have a higher potential for achievement and indicate spiritual gifts, both being meant for helping people on a larger scale. It's then not surprising to see famous leaders, scientists, Artists… with such numbers but depending on the path they chose and their personal level of spiritual awareness, the results can come out in more or less successful forms as can be noticed in the examples below.
This being said, having 11, 22, 33 in one's chart isn't a mark of specialness in itself. Like another number, Master numbers signals a potential that can get unfulfilled. And in addition the heavy charge they bear require mastery before anything promising can be achieved. A good comparison would be trying to ride an untamed wild stallion while a single digit number would be given a saddled pony.
As a matter of course, 11, 22 and 33 people get tougher tests, often synonymous with traumas in their early years, for them to build the necessary strength of character and maturity. At that point either they manage to heal and have an opportunity to reach spiritual awakening or they stay crippled and can spend the rest of their life droning, sometimes stuck in the negative side of their number. Another possibility is they more or less consciously shun their duty call owing to the toll it'd take on their private life or the insufficient energy they invest in trying to figure out their concrete goal in life. Either way, experience shows the Universe doesn't let them get away with it forever.
The proportion of people with Master numbers who live up to close to their full potential is extremely low, that's why they're noted with their reduced version, which is the level most people experience, ie : 11/2, 22/4, 33/6… Some common remaining hints of their higher vibration are psychic/empathic gifts and strong interest/skills in artistic, philosophical or scientific,… topics. Now, their meaning…
11/2 : The Master Enlightener (birthing and anchoring the New) Eleven is energetic, perceptive and intuitive and is commonly found in the chart of people with psychic gifts. It's purpose is to bring enlightenment/guidance on a larger scale and can for example incarnate as a visionary leader or an inspirational teacher. It is a highly idealistic number, and because of this can appear unstable. Eleven has almost unlimited energy and because of this needs to be in touch with both sides of its nature - the physical and spiritual - the mental and emotional. The eleven can seem distant and detached, when in fact it is actually living in its own dreams. But it can sometimes be a real loner. Can be seen as the combination of : 1, 2, 7 and 8 (leadership) Positive: Vision, leadership, energetic, moral courage, powerful, intuitive, inspired and even prophetic. Negative: Unfeeling, uncaring, unstable, rebellious, a seeker of revenge. famous 11's : Nicolas Tesla, Adolf Hitler, Steven Spielberg
22/4 : The Master Builder (building upon the New. Building New Lives and a New World.) While 11 thrives in the world of Thoughts, 22 operates on a practical level. It's more likely to be found in large organizations, whether corporate or public, dealing with concrete issues in it's own inspired ways. It is a number of courage, force and hard work. Twenty-two is quick witted, far sighted and intuitive. Twenty-two is a number of high idealism, wanting the best for the world because it sees the best the world has to offer. Since it's the higher octave of 4, it's more prone to display conservative tendencies. Can also be manipulative and ruthless. Can be seen as the combination of : 1, 4, 7 and 8 (power/goal-oriented) Positive: Creative, inspired and spiritual, a master, full of practical wisdom. Negative: Criminal, bigoted, wilful, manipulative, brash, ruthless. famous 22's : Freud, Bill Gates, Margareth Thatcher, Woody allen
33/6 : The Master Healer (Universal Service) 33 is often referred to as a "Christ-like" number. Being the higher "octave" of 6, it feels concerned by the welfare of masses and compelled relieve their burden. In that, it also embraces the qualities of a 9 which it takes to a new level. 33 is the number which has the hardest time setting boundaries between itself and others due to it's potent empathic gifts and the way it's affected by other's pain. Can be seen as the combination of : 2, 6, 7 and 9 positive: healer, inspirational, compassionate, protector. negative: martyrdom, depressive, extremist, apathic, forceful in attempts to serve others. famous 33's : Einstein, Georges, W. Bush.

Karmic Numbers We saw in the introduction that numbers, at the exception of 11, 22, 33, have to be reduced until obtaining a single digit. For example if the result of a calculation amounts to 23, we add the two digits, which gives us 5. There are however four intermediary numbers which aren't to be missed out if we don't want to lose valuable information. These numbers are 13, 14, 16 and 19. They're often referred to as "Karmic Debts" as they're said to be the consequences of mistakes we made in past lives. Whether or not if one believes in past lives doesn't really matter as we can just stick with their description. Since Karmic numbers end up being reduced anyway, what's so special about them? What's the difference between say having a 23/5 and a 14/5? Like the word Karmic hints it, the answer is an extra load of tests and challenges in a similar fashion as those mentioned for Master Numbers, only the purpose differs. Those with 14/5, 16/7 and 19/1 in their Life Path will feel like the universe mercilessly rubs the single digit vibrations in their face, 5 being the number of change, 14/5 will make their life subject to countless redirections, 16/7 will bring about upheavals in the same way as the Tower card in Tarot, and 19/1 is likely to cause isolation at some point. 13/4 is less tough in that the lesson is about learning to acquire the 4 skills. The person tends to get either problems following what it starts though completion or being pretty messy. Interestingly enough, I once had the case of someone with two 13/4 who was on the contrary compulsively obsessed with order. I'm not sure if it's due to too much 4 or another way to interpret the karmic number. The bottom line is it's essential not to take these numbers as some sort of curse. Even though their influence can seem sticky, they really only are if the person resists accepting the extra lessons they have to learn. Once they do and act accordingly, the pressure starts loosening up. The Decoz definitions give some more info about it : 13Those with the 13 Karmic Debt will work very hard to accomplish any task. Obstacles stand in their way, and must be overcome time and again. One may often feel burdened and frustrated by the seeming futility of one's efforts there may be a desire to surrender to the difficulties and simply give up on the goal, believing it was impossible to attain in the first place. Some with the 13 Karmic Debt fall to laziness and negativity. But efforts are not futile, and success is well within reach. One simply must work hard, and persevere in order to reach the goal. Many highly successful people in all walks of life, including business, art, and athletics, have a 13 Karmic Debt. The key to succeeding wit the 13 is focus. Very often, people with the 13 Karmic Debt do not concentrate or direct their energies in one specific direction, or on a single task, but scatter their energies over many projects and jobs, none of which amount to very much. A temptation wit the 13 is to take shortcuts for quick success. Too often, that easy success doesn't come, causing regret and the desire to give up. The result is a poor self-image, and the belief that one is incapable of amounting to very much. In order to focus, you must maintain order in your life. Order is essential to success. You must maintain a schedule, keep appointments, and follow through. Keep your environment neat and under control, and never procrastinate. If you sustain a steady and consistent effort, you will realize much reward. 14The 14 Karmic Debt arises from previous lifetimes during which human freedom has been abused. Those with a 14 Karmic Debt are forced to adapt to ever-changing circumstances and unexpected occurrences. There is an acute danger of falling victim to abuse of drugs, alcohol, and overindulgence in sensual pleasures, such as food and sex. You must put the reins on yourself. Modesty in all affairs is crucial to overcoming this Karmic Debt. Also important is the need to maintain order in life, and to establish one's own emotional stability. you must also be willing to adapt to the unexpected occurrences of life, all the while maintaining your focus on your goals and dreams. Flexibility and adaptability are at the very core of this struggle. Orderliness in one's immediate environment is crucial to maintaining clarity and focus. Mental and emotional stability must be attained in order to avoid being thrown about by the changing fortunes in the external environment. But the key to the 14 Karmic Debt is commitment. Life will resemble a roller coaster ride, but it will always travel in the right direction if one's heart is set on what is true and good. Set yourself a high goal, maintain order wherever possible in your life, avoid excessive sensory indulgence, and maintain faith. Above all, do not give up on your dreams and goals. Those with the 14 Karmic Debt will experience life to the fullest, and as long as they maintain a high dream, they will achieve success and great spiritual development. 16The 16 Karmic Debt -- wherever it shows up on the chart -- means destruction of the old and birth of the new. The 16 is about the fall of the ego, and all that it has built for itself. It is a watershed, a cleansing. All that has been constructed, and all that serves to separate the person from the source of life is destroyed. Through the 16, reunion with the great spirit is accomplished. This can be a painful process, because it usually comes after much ego inflation. This results in a struggle between the ego and the divine will. Life presents challenges to your grand plans, which can be resented and struggled against. It is a lost battle, and you will likely feel humbled in the face of the collapse that follows. This humility is the key to later success, however, because you will learn to follow the intimations of a higher reality. In the destruction of the old, a spiritual rebirth takes place with an entirely new awareness. This rebirth affects every area of your life. It is a life much the better for the fall. Those with the 16 Karmic Debt must be careful of egotism. Very often, those with the 16 use their highly intuitive and refined intellect to look down upon others, and view the rest of the world as inferior. This causes acute alienation and loneliness. In addition, it invites retribution, for the egotist is humbled more harshly than any other. When the 16 is in one of the core numbers, this process of destruction and rebirth is a continual cycle that actually serves to bring you into higher consciousness and closer union with the source of life. The 16 Karmic Debt can be a path of progress and great spiritual growth if it is looked at properly. One develops great faith by placing one's life in the hands of God. Through such faith, gratitude and peace are firmly established. 19The person with the 19 Karmic Debt will learn independence and the proper use of power. You will be forced to stand up for yourself, and often be left to stand alone. Difficulties will be faced and overcome through personal struggle. One of the central lessons for people with the 19 Karmic Debt is that you stubbornly resist help. Much of your independence is self-imposed; you simply don't want to listen to others, or to accept the help or advice of others. The 19 Karmic Debt can become a self imposed prison if you do not open up to the reality of interdependence, and the mutual need for love. The most important lesson for the 19 Karmic Debt is: While you seek to stand on your own feet, you are still a human being, deeply connected with others and in need of the support, assistance, and human understanding that all people need. Those with the 19 Karmic Debt will learn the hard way that "no man is an island," and that we are, indeed, "all bits of the main!"
