Existenceisadream, shortly my 2 cents to your question to Blake. All depends on what sort of Qigong-exercises you are doing. Usually you can say that most exercises working with up-energies like pulling energy from the sky (yang) are energetizising, and exercises which foremost use the earth-energies(yin), like pulling energy from the earth or let the energy flow off to earth are foremost calming. Thats why I start with yang and dynamic exercises and always finish with calm and earthy exercises before bed or at the evenings, hmm at least if I dont wonna work or dance the night through :-)) lgn

Thanks for the reply Nani. Yea I need to try somethin else so I'm not so full of energy before sleep. I'm not excactly sure of what to call what I'm doing but here is a cut and paste from a PM...
As of late I've been meditating, doing Yoga, and energy work daily. I've been doing some kind of form of movement meditation that I think I'm going to post on the forum about. I put on whatever music that I feel will relax me and shut my eyes. I start in Indian style and do breathing work. As for the movement what I do is I'll slowly move my head to where I'm looking straight up and then hold this. Then I do it opposite till I'm looking straight down. The thing is, is that I'm breathing very slowly and deeply and I breath many breaths for each head movement (that's how slow I'm moving my head) What this does is allow for great visuals. The slow movement with the breathing makes the visuals twist and turn into whatever. I then go into Yoga with very slow movements with every move going perfectly with my breathing. I finish with a standing QI Gong style energy raising position. By now my eyes of been closed for nearly and hour and the visuals are great. I hold my hands out in front of me and in vision holding a ball of white light. As I raise the ball up I pull my hands further apart making the ball bigger. I do this very slowly breathing many breaths. As I get to where my arms are out above my head I open my arms up and in vision pouring this massive amount of white energy completely over me bringing my arms back down very slowly to my sides and then out again to form another energy ball. I repeat this several times and then open my eyes. Over an hour has passed and my whole body is buzzing like I'm almost in trance and feeling the astral vibrations.
I don't get the buzzing sensation until I'm doing the enrgy ball thing and when I'm done like I said my whole body is buzzing with energy. I'm not sure how close this resembles to Qi Gong. The only part I feel is close to Qi Gong is the last part of standing in one postion and doing the evergy ball thing for about 20 to 30 minutes.

hey sounds great, and truly sounds like Qigong. I often also do make my own exercise-mixture, depending on the time I got and on the condition Im in. All I`ve read of what you describe does sound very energeticising to me, which is very good, but if you want to calm down then you could add just a little exercise at the end: stand comfortable, the knees a bit bowed, your hands on the dantien (around the navel). While you breath-in you wave your weight a bit to the front, onto your toes, while out-breath you wave back your body-weight onto the heel. Therby while in-breath you can imagine to pull calming light-energy from earth and let it flow back again into earth then while out-breath. This exercise is very calming and centering - ha and dont wonder if you feel like 3 meters tall after some time.. lgn

Nani answered this better than I could've. All I can say is that it does keep me awake some too, but I use that as a tool. I like to raise energy in the early morning then get back in bed. The energy raised keeps me from falling completely asleep when I am relaxing to project.
Yeah qi gong is definitely used for the physical body as much as the energy body. That's why all those martial artists do it, but there are others that do it for the second body.
