Trees are great, and they have a super huge energy field surrounding them. The spirit of a tree is very wise. A love for nature, I believe, is required for this meditation.
Pick a tree that you are somewhat connected to. If you like Oaks the best then go to an old oak tree ex cetera. At a small distance look at the tree, without looking at a specific spot. Look at a point of the tree, but with your peripheral vision notice every leaf, and every branch, untill you have a total vision of the entire tree, you may also then see it's aura. Walk up to the tree and express your love for the tree. Tell it you think it is beautiful, strong, wise, or whatever feelings you feel about it. Walk up to the trunk of the tree, and feel yourself, or at least be aware, that you are entering into its massive energy field. Place your left hand on the trunk of the tree. Begin to feel the energy flowing into your hand, and then up your arm. Feel the energy, and close your eyes. Often you will begin to see swirling patterns in your vision, where the black void is usually. Next place your other hand on the tree, and offer it your energy. Tell it verbally or mentaly that you wish it to know you as well. Now feel the energy flowing in your left and out your right. Focus on giving the tree your loving energy. If you wish place your head on the tree aswell, and feel the tree's wisdom. Do this for as long as you wish. It will leave you with a sense of connection to nature, and a buzz similar to a high. The tree will place you in a higher state of awareness, one that is very close to nature.

I love trees. I feel so much evergy from them just by gazing at them. I'm lucky to live in a town with many trees. When I hike up to a mountain that over looks our town you can barely see any houses becuase that's how many trees are here. When I'm out and about or riding my bike I feel most of my attention is at looking at the trees (or the clouds). I'm definetly going to do this meditation with the trees.

I've thought about this post all day and I am hoping to try this method of meditation, but I'll have to wait till I go back to that special tree.

It is a beautiful meditation that just calms and slows down your whole being. I wouldn't worry about what others think, they are just interested in what's on TV tonight. But if other's negative thoughts effect you, then just do it when noone is around. Personaly I am proud to pay no attention to people, and keep my undivided attention to the tree's spirit. Most tree's do not like most people, we think we are better then everything else.
The Blackgum is a great tree, I love it's fall colours. It would be very hard for me to pick a favorite though, I absolutely love every kind. I am partial to some though, like the Hawthorn, and Lady of the Woods (birch), Beech, but you know my list could go on forever!

It was a few months ago when I read the first half of the art of dreaming but I believe when Don Juan goes into the part about organic and in-organic beings I believe he says that trees are in-organic beings and can be really evil which goes along that most trees don't like people. After reading this part everytime I was near a tree I felt very weird thinking that the tree doesn't like me or that it has this kind of power. Crazy. Can't wait to get back to that part of the book to make sure I'm remembering it right.

Oh yes trees have a great power for sure. And the book does say that trees and almost every spirit on our earth doesn't like us, or even wants to hurts us. I don't hink they are inorganics though, I think inorganics have their own realm, and their physical bodies can not be seen here. But I should re-read that part too, I could be wrong, but I think they are organics. But we can certainly undo the damage of what we have done, by loving trees, and getting to know them. They won't want to hurt us if we show them love and respect. They may not trust us at first, and some may still not like you, but you will get a great feeling from this meditation for sure. And every time you go back to your tree friends, they give you more and more energy and raise your awarness easier, and it gets easier every time. They love offerings as well, especially water, but also food.

That meditation sounds awesome.
I will have to try it. I have what I believe is a mini nature-vortex in my backyard. There is a small ravine with lots and lots of trees and plants coming out of it, so thick that it is impossible to enter. Sometimes I can just feel really strong Earth energies coming out of there.
I'll bet that there is a gnome or two making wine down there, maybe I should try to enter.

I love trees too, so much that I'm constantly catching something from one of them. I have a picture with me kissing two trees over the past three or four months. One tree I got poison oak from this summer. A very itchy price I had to pay for the hug of that tree. A nice tree to hug for me is a maple tree. I know it sounds nuts, but you're so right about the energy it gives you. I never thought about talking to the tree, but that I'll start to do ASAP. I hope no one tries to lock me up in Central Park for holding, hugging and talking to all the wonderful trees they have there:)

That is a very nice meditation and right in line with my current meditation practices. Sometimes I think you post these things just for me lol. I guess we are just like minded.
Thank you for sharing this great technique.
Oh btw: I don't blame the trees for wanting to hurt us if that's how they feel. In fact I expect them to feel that way. I mean it's the humans that are cutting down all the trees to make room for buildings and roads. It just sickens me everytime I see construction workers clearing land for apartments and townhomes and condos. It's almost as if I can feel the trees pain. I can't stay around construction sites long or even see trees and nature being destroyed.
If I were a tree I would most definately want to hurt humans and I would hate them too.

I just love that people are doing this meditation! After connecting with the trees I often feel like weeping from an immense love of nature. A great feeling! Today at my campus they were cutting down a tree. A beatifull Russian Olive tree. It made me very sad. I touched the tree and talked to it for a while. I told her I was very sorry for our mistakes, and misunderstanding. I said 'bye' and assured myself that this beautiful tree will not die but move on. I hate to see nature get torn down by us! I'll never look at a tree the same way again. I know exactly what you mean!!! Anyways another variation to this meditation i do. I like to do the same meditation but with the earth's energy. I just become aware of the immense energy of the earth. I let it flow (well i pull it up) into me, and allign myself with it. I clear my mind, feel the energy, and send my loving thoughts out.

Haha again I do something very similar to using the energy of the Earth. I do this to center myself and clear my head.
