I just wanted to start a debate about how science and religion can define reality...Do you think we need them both in order to understand the world around us, or do you think its one or the other? A lot of people seem to choose either one to define reality and life..and to decide one or the other has the answers..What are your thoughts on this? Do you think we need both? Do you think Science can give us all the answers?

Religion and science describe and study different areas of life. Sometimes they overlap, but generally we can't get all the answers depending only on one of them.
Who chooses only religion or only science won't gain the knowledge about every aspect of reality. He will get only partial and limited answers.
We need science as well as religion to get a full view of the world's mysteries.

I'd say that yes, world is just hallucination. maybe it's just mine hallucination or maybe it's yours or maybe we all see it differently. or something...

thanks Koso for your opinion here ;D I agree with ya, I think we must have both in order to fully understand our reality, or at least try to understand it, I think majority of the world is either religion or science beleivers 100% I hope this changes soon, since we must realize science can not prove everything, I used to think this but my conciousness has told me other wise, someday I hope this can be proven, as well as out of body expreinces.. but that is the beauty of life, it is constantly growing, we will always have some form of mystery to uncover and discover.. yeah I gotcha Ruby... thanks

I personally would say that we need both science and religion.
I don't follow a set religion because most churches are not accepting of some things, although I now understand that there are churches out there who do not judge (Thanks Lori for the email, I will reply shortly). I think that it is important to have religion because I think that people need their beliefs, even if they don't match up with mine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I'm all for science, it's brilliant in so many ways. Look at the world we live in, where would we be without scientific breakthroughs. One thing that I don't like though is when people say that things like OBE's aren't real becuase it cannot be scientifically proven. Just because the human race has not evolved to the level where we have created machines that can prove it doesn't mean that it isn't real.
So as you can see, I'm kinda in the middle on this one.
Love Hol.

Well I don't like to use the word "religion" - I prefer spirituality. But, anyway I think we need balance of all three - body (physical, health), mind (science, knowledge) and soul (religion, spirituality) to see reality more clearly. I don't think it is ever one or the other that defines anything. Nothing ever is mostly black or white it is usually gray. Does that make sense?

Yea that makes sense Lori
I view religion and spirituality a little different because I've always considered myslf not religious but very spiritual. Though I don't go to church or worship a religion (I never have, at least in this present life) I still have high beliefs in the higher consciousnesses or god and the eternal soul. I've never really believed the heaven and hell theory because it doesn't make sense that this life will determine where we'll end up for eternity. It seems like religion sets you up for an ending. As if once you get there that's it. It's where you've been trying to get to and now you have nothing left to accomplish. I believe in constant creation and that kind of after life would prohibit it. But I feel very spiritual because I do believe in the eternal soul and I think about this all the time. I'm not intending to offend anyone here that is religious or follows a certain religion. So anyways Lori, I do see how the two can be the same.
I agree that we need balance of all three body, mind, and soul to see or experience reality more clearly as well.

I also agree with Lori, I think that we need a balance of the three as well, also we need a balance of black and white, we must have both.. I don't realy beleive in any set ways of thinking as far as relegion or beleifs go, since I am constantly changing I know that my way of thinking will also change.. so I try to remain open minded and let my inner self guide me, and it always does but I do however think religion and spiritual are very similiar things, both are trying to capture something more, but one is with others and one is perhaps alone..

How many of you have by chance seen a movie called what the bleep do we know whatthebleep.com/ I have found this movie as a major step in the right direction and seen it 6-7 times.. still cant get my head around all the things they talk about. as for science vs religion well why would an all knowing deity create us make us live this life then throw some of us into a burning pit of lava or allow us to live in the most beautiful place imaginable based on decisions which he knew we where going to make in the 1st place. Why would fallen angels oppose him and try to fight even though they know that god is more powerful then them being that he created them... after 3 days in the belly of a whale wasnt jonah even partily digested? I'm not going to continue on this line as I dont have all night. IMHO religion is a way to allow people to feel that they are not responsable for the things that happen in the world, somthing good happens it's the hand of god, somthing bad happens it's the work of the devil or whomever the approiate deitys are. Quantum physics/mechanics tells us that we are responsable for the things that we create in the world from our thoughts and actions. But this type of responsability is too much for those who have grown accustomed being able to blame a higher power. I'm not saying religion is bad.. I was blown away that the popes last action was to make a blessing, prayer is also good as it creates the intention desired and because the person believes in the deity without doubt they too create the result, as the result of their prayer affecting the quantum field. jeez I can ramble

Hey Blank, I have not seen that movie, but Im dieing too..I have heard so much about it..I can't wait to see it ,so have you ever read "The Celestine Prophesies"by James Redfield? its avery interesting read, and you sound alot llike what they talk about, but its more about evolution of the soul, and through times, people no longer feel their is a God to dictate our actions and from this major changes began to happen, and the evlution begans..because it was the realization of man that God was not responsible for everything that happens, anyway, its a great book. and I agree, I don't understand Religion..never did even as a child I turned my back to it.. but science is also limited in many ways..I just keep thinking how this world is going to evolve, with this new age dawning, and taking over, while technology is moving fast..and herbal medicines coming back, all kinds of things are happening that will effect the future, however, I still beleive we will collapse on our selves, because humans are still missing the point, and the mundane life, is still too mundane!!!

I think that science can be helpful to understand things, but when science starts to interfere with religion by trying to proove things that just can't be prooven things get frustrating.
